In sadder news, we had two chicks hatch and die overnight. The three that had already hatched before last night are quite well though, so we're counting our little blessings. The other two eggs might be abandoned now (they were stuck under her much later, so she might just give up on them as quitters).

Hopefully she knows they are growing and will stay put.

Haha, loved the pics also, the kitten is just precious.

Got a question for my fellow goat owners... I have doe that paces and does a stretch type of thing with her neck and she calls softly the whole time. I have checked her for bloat, worms any wounds Just don't know what is going on with her. She eats and drinks, she is not losing weight, she looks real good really. She is breed for the first time and is due the last of Dec. first of Jan.
any ideals before I call the vet would be great.

I am so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just found my first silkie eggs!!! found 3 but think only one is laying!!
My mom said that you don't know if they are a cockerel or pullet till they crow or lay and egg. We thought "Anna" was a boy, but no she laid an egg. Now there is an egg song symphony going on so probably more than one is laying.

According to the ASPCA, birds commonly suffer injuries in cockfights, including punctured lungs, broken bones and pierced eyes, as a result of knives and blades "attached to the birds to maximize injury." Some cockfighting rings also inject the birds with steroids to make them more aggressive, the ASPCA said.
Cockfighting is a Level 6 felony in the state of Indiana, punishable by up to two and a half years in state prison and a maximum $10,000 fine.

He doesn't have any distinguishing marks and isn't even a recognizable color. I haven't seen any tattoos on him, and his spurs are natural (thank heaven), rather blunt and short. He might be around a year old and definitely has the longest, thickest spurs of anyone in the yard (even though they're still under an inch long). Most of his injuries seem to have been there a week or so, and on top of the injuries, he looks like he might be molting (some of the feathers are growing back in). Given all the red marks and scabs at the bases of the vast majority of the missing feathers (which apparently came out in clumps), I have to conclude that something ripped them out more than they fell out of their own accord.

I don't know anyone who keeps Asian game breeds in this area, and only know one house that keeps a game breed at all (unless you want to count my Sumatra mixes and the CX, which are largely descended from an Asian game breed). Neighbors a few doors down keep a small mixed laying flock and what look to be OEGBs or maybe even Seramas (one was minuscule!). Both of the roosters I've seen were in immaculate condition so there's no way they're being fought. All of the other (few) flocks around appear to be solely layers with (at most) one dual purpose rooster.

As much as I'd like to "get the bad guy", I think I'd just wind up bringing down legal hell on myself and some really nice neighbors (who may or may not be here legally in the first place). I'd also be placing the bird's wellbeing in jeopardy because they'd likely kill him out of hand (he's a fighting bird, for heaven's sake, who's going to adopt him if it's even legally allowed?). It's just a whole heap of trouble I don't want (and I don't want to inflict it on anyone else here either). If I have something more to go on, I'll definitely phone it in, but one bird who has probably ranged pretty far from home isn't much for them to go on (and the cops downtown are usually mean as sin)

I once had my rooster in the garage in a time-out pen to change up the pecking order in the general flock. Had a guy working at the house doing some tree work and he saw "mister" in there and asked me if I kept him for fighting.

I told him that he was just separated for a couple days. He went on to tell me that "his people" (he was Hispanic) still do cock fights...they know they're not supposed to, but it is something that their culture does.

It was kind of strange that as soon as he saw a roo he assumed it was for fighting.... (and wanted to know if he was for sale).

Just an FYI the deal with the neighbor got drastically reduced he no longer wants all 20 cornich rocks he only wants 5 so now I'm stuck with 15 more then needed they are about half way to processes age if anyone is interested please pm me I need the space and boy do they eat

Although it is completely illegal, and immoral in the US, yes its part of some cultures in other countries. Anyone doing it here is asking for some severe penalties and long jail sentences. OH had a large cockfighting ring and many folks went to jail, many birds were euthanized, early 90s. Just horrific. My neighbor recently warned me that livestock auctions is where the poor roosters are harvested from too. He overheard discussion while someone was bidding on a big batch of them.

Be sure to with hold feed 12 hours a day or you risk them "flipping" aka heart attacks.
