With 2 small dogs I just don't see getting a puppy next month.
Yes. It takes a lot of work just for the chickens alone. If you add in other poultry, pheasant derived species, waterfowl type birds and live stock.. Its quite a chore. I usually have at least 4 hours of just daily care, aside from hooves, other events and medicines. Each animal species needs a different program of care, and feed to ensure they are thriving.. That's just all part of keeping poultry or livestock.I'm starting to feel like if you have more then just chicken then you better have an awesome schedule at work that works around your farm or your farm is your job
Quote: I so agree. I do it because my family benefits from it and my parents health has shown major improvement.
Quote: Don't believe everything you hear, so not kidding. Its online, just look up any question you have via Google. what local farmers get in grants or federal funds. Its pretty amazing if you know, personally what they do compared to what the government helps with. I know a beef cattle farmer north of me that I am amazed he does so well. Cows are not cheap. Social animals are so much more important in a small setting and I will gladly pay for it.
From the smallest quail to the largest cow, I want social, imprinted animals. That's what I look for, and I will pay the cost to obtain them.

You betcha, @pbirdhaven I want a farm just like my grandparents had. Its a "bucket list" thing and makes me feel closer to them. Its also been a goal for most of my life.

The shed has been a big disappointment from the floor on... It said 10 x 8 so we built a 10 x 8 floor ... Wrong!!!! it's 7 1/4 x 10 so we have floor sticking out, the instructions Suck!! The roof was a mess cause it rained and washed the numbers off it so that was not fun... DH wouldn't let me do the floor the way I still think it should have been done!! And he is about to find out, cause he will be fixing that floor before he knows it. As for the leaking roof!!!! We got some clear sealer that was not cheep, but it better work!! got it on today.Aw bummer, hope your shed isn't too hard to fix. Hope your dog is okay.![]()
See above... lolTry the spray on sealent
Me either and I know a few. They put in long, HARD hours and get very little in return money wise. The big money farmers are the ones thaat own 1/2 the farm ground in town and know how to save money.I have never met a farmer that can fish all day. I actually don't think they make all that much money considering they are out in the fields all manner of hours working. According to the USDA, 90% of a farm family's income typically comes from off farm income. Most of the farmers I know have day jobs, that is why you see the combines out in the fields so late at night. The spread of GMO crops are helping improve yields and financial return for farmers, but the seed market is stagnant at the moment and the entire industry is struggling. Also, keep in mind that land and equipment is so expensive that most farm families are mortgaged to the hilt. Most farmers came from farming families and take pride in what they do, they do not do it for the money.
