Ok don't shun me for this but I was wondering if there was another or more, chicken related forums? Does anyone have any recommendation I looked sorta and couldn't come up with any that have been used in the last three months I just like to see all the pretty chickens and maybe see if another forum has more people close by can't hurt to network
You can join more threads. There are tons of active threads on BYC.

Our thread is very open to all farm related discussions. This includes everything from cheese making, bees, personal life events and chickens. Many of us have been friends a few years now. Theres no taboos aside from things that are not child friendly as we have young adults on our thread. I watch several other threads and actively post. You don't need anyone's ok to do that also. We all network, its part of keeping livestock and poultry. I encourage you to find other forums that interest you.

While I don't have Cochin, I do have two Dark Brahma roos who gave me a feather-legged EE. All three of the chicks have feathered legs

I'm not sure when we'll be able to get Wun Wun, Little Wellie and Priscilla to you. I'm going to see about organizing a chicken train with my brother (he lives in Terre Haute and commutes to Indy). You're going to love these three! They're such dolls (esp Wun Wun). The feathered legs must be dominant by this showing, and muffs are dominant too, so you may wind up with Faverolle impersonators yet!

I'm hoping for feather legged, muff and beards, My EE all have muffs and beards and with the SF and the Cochin I am hoping I can get all three... just something I want, don't need... lol

When ever is fine, I am excited to have Wun Wun and the others but not in a rush, breeding don't start till spring anyway. Poor Bob can't cover all the hens he has and come spring will need help.. lol I have an EE x that is going in with Bob and the layers, When Wun Wun gets here he will have the 5 Lt. Brahma's from the layer pen ( 5 less Bob will have to worry about ) I have already took the BCM, FM, Splash Maran and the SF and the Cochin out of the layer flock and put them with the EE and AM's. So Bob is already a little less busy.. lol

It's a winter wonderland around here! Didn't actually measure but guessing we have around 4 inches. A TV station in South Bend measured 5.3" around 3:00 pm and it's still falling. Luckily, it's supposed to warm up again in a few days so it won't last. Until then, supposed to get down to 20 tonight, high of 28 tomorrow and low of 17 tomorrow night. Brrrrrr!!!!!

I've been keeping up reading posts but haven't posted much in a long time. Chloe & I have been super busy with holiday bazaars. Our biggest selling item is fleece lined sweater mittens. We have sold oodles of these since October and all our free time goes into making more to keep restocked. These are a few of those we have right now....

Our second batch of meat birds were processed 2 weeks ago so our freezer is full of chicken. The ducks stopped laying over a month ago which my duck egg customers aren't happy about. Chickens are still laying, but numbers have dropped a bit.

that's TOO much snow, We only got 1 -2 inches here and that is too much.

I love your mittens, I love that they are so colorful. You guys do a very good job.

I don't think anyone will Shun you. But outside of BYC you are going to have near impossible results when it come to active threads, I looked a very long time before finding BYC and never was I satisfied. I Post on the EE thread, AM thread and Silkie threads, I watch a few others and sometimes post on them too. It took me awhile to do so cause I found some of them to be a bit on the rude side sometimes and I was new and didn't know how to take their snide comments ( not all just a few ) but now I just let it roll off my back and don't pay them any mind. On the other hand I have made some friends in other threads also. I friend and I mad our own little PM THREAD we talk so much.. lol Always get info on anything cause there is always someone that has it to give. And I have run into other peeps from this thread on other threads so no big deal, go search post have fun.

this is how it started. this was 30 min latter. We ended up with maybe 1 1/2" at our place the news said some places in TH got 2. So not too bad. But still too much to someone that don't like snow!!! ( ME )

At feed time last night I went into the new shed coop and couldn't believe how Warm it was in there!! And I was worried about it being COLD cause it is metal. I need to put a thermometer in there and see what it says cause I'm telling ya it was warm, I just have a 40 w bulb in there on a timer. It was great. And my girls are so happy!!!
I had DH come in and check it out and he said he was going to take it away from them and turn it into his man cave... lol. So now he wants to tear down the layer coop and build one of these for them...
barnie.gif
I said we aint building nothing!! He can find one already built, but I aint helping build another one of these!!!!

I got to ware my new bibs and boots last night at feed time and man it was great!!! I stayed warm and my feet didn't get wet!!! Well worth the 120.00.

The hay I was expecting this week came in Friday so we are set for winter!!!

I was more of just trying to find more Indiana folks near me who enjoy chickens it's odd to me that there arnt more people on here nearly half my county seem to have or like chickens I pass like 6 farms everyday on my way to work that have chickens and there's only two of us in this part of the state.. It's just odd

And on another note yesterday when I was checking on my rir chicks I put with the rest of my rir I picked one up and noticed something strange it had little feather stubs like one or two little shoots of feather coming out of its feet.. Now I know daddy had same thing but I thought it was a weird oddity now I'm worried... This isn't a common trait in rirs is it? Is it possible his parent or grand parent were mixed? It's only one or two so maybe there's some brahma or langshan in there?

Good morning all! Hope everyone is staying warm.
I recently bought a new feed that Agraian is carrying its from Liberty Feed in Shelbyville. After reading the ingredients, it has a few different good bacterias in it derived from fermentation process. I have been fermenting for a little while now (Agraians other layer feed). My question is... Would it be alright to ferment the new stuff since it has the bacterias already in it? Or am I just spinning my wheels? Or how about mixing the feed together and fermenting? Thoughts please and thank you!
Here is a pic of the new stuffs label.

I agree Daskhsan. Ive met a few people just through giving little roosters away, my husband works with two people that also have small farms and no one in my area is on here. (I'm still not sure where you are lol). What gets me the most though is theres hardly anyone in this area doing any kind of farming. We are out of town, theres no zoning in this county yet my neighbors complain to the county commision about my gardens and animals, instead of raising their own food. They are only interested in pretty yards. Drives me crazy :).
