INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Its my goal to get to the point I fill feeders and waterers a couple times a week. Still collect eggs daily, but we are really trying to simplify and streamline our chores. Looking into automatic waterers/nipples for my pigs to cut the mud some, ugh. I fill the water trough several times a day. My Boar, Oreo thinks he needs 4 inches of mud at all times! I no sooner fill it and he dumps it. :idunno What a goofball. We add grass clippings, pine needles and leaves, hay etc to the hog pen often, and scrape out several times a year for the compost pile.
Not sure how an auto watering system can work on tractor coops, we are brainstorming it too.Be a lot of quick disconnects! We plan to add another hydrant dedicated to the animals water supply only. Any waterfowl will have to have buckets, no way around that. They have to be able to dunk those heads.

We always used a section of pvc pipe with one end capped and a nipple installed low for the hogs. Not a good winter solution but kept mud down. That's my plan this go round as well.

M2H : our chickies arent helping in the flowerbeds - at least not for a while . . . . . . . . .
this is the suprise they got to play in yesterday , & more arriving today .

New kids on the block. All SFH. 2 blue based, 3 black based and one that remains to be seen. SFH are like a box of chocolates. They literally change from week to week.

All the kiddos are from the imports [NOT the ones they are calling sfh at a big-name hatchery that don't even resemble them...not sure what that's about.) These come from the Swedish imports and 2 from the German imposts. Looking forward to seeing how they all turn out...especially the German kiddos.

Now waiting for the Buckeyes to arrive! :)

Nice chicks
what kind of leg bands are those? I have been using zip ties but they are limited colors and you have to watch them close during growing spurts.

Any post is ok as long as it meets BYC guidelines, family friendly.. Going to check it out tho, looks like its directed to saving horses.

ROFL!!! Mine went to bed at 9, I am watching "pulp fiction" never seen the movie! DIL asked me if I had. Geez i live a sheltered life

Oh and Pearl Jam flat rocks, love it!
Love Pearl Jam. Two of my first CDs were Peral Jam (Vitalogy and Vs.). Once in awhile, I still get a hankering for them. Pulp Fiction was a later watching for me too, and it takes a certain frame of mind. I think it's better to watch Tarantino movies with other people who find them humorous because, left to my own devices, I can't stand them. With other people, however, they take on very different attributes and can even be enjoyable (oh, the hilarious Samuel L. Jackson and Travolta conversations!)

Thanks! I found a couple BBW to keep the one company for now, and may be getting some midget whites soon. But if you find yourself with a few extra bourbons after your orders are filled, ID love to have a few

. I'm falling in love with turkeys now lol.

I gave up and bought three BBW poults a few weeks ago because my lone MW tom is sick. I brought him in today to look at the babies, and they seemed to calm him down some. He didn't get sick until after we took Saphira (his best friend, a BBW hen) away (poor girl was simply in too much pain, so we had to put her out of her misery). The two BBW poults look like a pair, with the probable hen being smaller and demandingly affectionate, and the probable jake being very adventurous--loves to run a fly everywhere. @jchny2000 has really sociable White Hollands and Bourbon Reds.

I'm reading Illumination in the Flatwoods now, and I can't say that domestic varieties really behave so differently from wild turkeys. They seem to be the most heartwarming and heartbreaking fowl.

I don't use them but the folks I bought the chicks from do. They outgrow them quickly. I had to remove them from the 2 week olds in the photos as they are getting too tight already. They do have various sizes, however, so you can get them at various sizes.

I don't like using zip ties since there's no "give" to them. These are actually quite nice since at least they have some stretch to them.

Thank you
yes zip ties don't expand so you have to watch them daily... at least I do
