Very sorry to hear Janet....that's gotta be tough!! On a brighter note, the eleven chicks we got from you are ALL doing great so far. We recently moved them from their " grow up pen" to the main coup ( sub-divided of course ) for their initial face to face meet n greet...and that too has gone well. Chickies be gettin big!!!!!

Been up all night with a very weak preemie buckling and he has passed away. Mother abandoned him late this afternoon. First time I have had to face this in the 30+ years I have kept goats. I have just known he was failing to thrive since he was born, not the typical playing and bouncing a kid does. Heartbroken but not the mothers fault. Doe is a Rehome and the sire has also passed recently offsite. Its still very upsetting.
I will not be keeping the doe. Sticking with my Oberhasli and easier births and kid care going forward.

SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE:

I noticed one of my hens had at least 2, and possibly 3, soft shell eggs about 2 weeks ago. They were all laid while on the roost and under this girl's area as far as I can tell.

Today, she is obviously not well. Just laying down mostly and is obviously not acting well. First noticed it this morning when I went to let them out.

Now I'm assuming that she "may" have one that hasn't passed and may be open inside. This is all assumption just because I saw the soft eggs before.


Is there anything that anyone knows that may clean out the system if this is the case?

I don't think peritonitis at this point. But wonder if I should give some liquid calcium...

maybe an epsom salt solution to drink for a day might help clean her out .
i dont remember the exact recipie mix, but could prob find it with a little bit of internet research.
maybe a epsom salt bath soak might help her feel a little better too
or could try some ACV in the waterer

Definitely get calcium into her, and a daily warm soak to prevent her egg binding or other issues.
