INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I want to say thank you to the messages I have received and @Leahs Mom thank you.
It is with deep sadness I must share that my Mother, Sally Miller went home to our Lord at approximately 8:40pm Wednesday. I ask you please keep my Dad, Everett Miller in your prayers if inclined to do so for strength. I am of course wide awake.. They Just celebrated their 59th anniversary on the 25th.will be back to our thread soon.
My deepest sympathies.

She is definitely one to research before she makes a decision. I know that my niece's vet's office is a short distance away and he treats and owns chickens and he has donkeys—not sure what kind, so I assume he'd treat them. I told my niece that I'd check with our thread since LGDs have been discussed. I've been on this thread almost since the beginning, and I don't remember anyone discussing donkeys. Do you? I think you are right, though, that a dog would be easier especially if they had to go out-of-town. Thanks for your input!
Pyrs (dogs, in general) need training. Sounds like being an MD wouldn't leave a lot of time to train a dog...

Here are some of my current babies.
BTW- The silver laced orps are my favs, so forgive the extra pics of them.
I have 1 male:

Blue laced orp female:
Not sure what she should look like. Perhaps she's a blue laced splash or a project bird.

All of the above birds were hatched from eggs from PapasPoultry.

I also have 3 female choc cuckoo orp females at the moment. We simply call them all "Baby Bricks" after their father. They look & act so much like their daddy, Brick, but slightly bigger since the moms were from my giant birds.

Its sad that there are people out there who rob others for a living instead of getting a job.
Today I got woke up around 6 am by the little girl who sold me the kitten. She said her mother sent her to get the kitten back and that she would give me my $2 back tomorrow??. I told her no that I will not give the kitten back, and that I took it to the animal hospital to drop it off because it was too little and needed a vet. She screamed at me saying "why would you do that! I have her mom!" I told her she shouldn't have been trying to sell it in the first place and that I want to speak to her mom. She yelled at me again saying "No! I won't let you!" then ran off.

Anyways yes I still have her. She and our other cat didn't like each other at first, but my husband made them lay next to each other all night. Now they play together!

Good job, I would've done the same thing!! And the pictures of the two cats together is adorable!!!

Hi,
We put ice in the hen water, and feed frozen fruit, such as seedless grapes, watermelon, etc. we also put up a shade cloth (old sheet) on the west side of the run, for mid to late afternoon hours. The rest of the time the coop and run is under trees, and it's quite pleasant!

I'm so sad I lost my tree! The girls are doing really well with the burlap curtains and extra water containers. I try to shallow kitty litter pan to see if they would get inside of it to cool the legs off but they just scratch straw into it. Silly girls! This fall I'm going to plant a few trees and bushes around the run to help shade it next year. I'm thinking and autumn blaze Maple and some chokeberries and witch hazel maybe and Aronia too. I work at Hidden Hill Nursery in Utica Indiana so hopefully the owner will give me a good deal fingers crossed

One of the first ladies finally started laying! I'm not sure which one it is yet. They are laying the sweetest little pinky cream colored eggs. The other eggs are there just for size comparison

My kitty cats have been bringing me carcasses of little animals they been hunting in the yard and the chickens keep finding them and going nuts over them. It's so gross but funny at the same time. Because one will pick a piece up and start running and the others chase her and ignore the rest of the carcass it's so funny.

These birds are gorgeous!!! One day I want to hatch my own. If my buff turns out to be a Ronnie instead of a Nancy, I just may let a broody hatch. Although none of my big girls have gone broody yet. Maybe one of the First Ladies will....

@nenebynature
Congrats on the new layers!!!! It's so much fun to find those little pullet eggs. Watching a broody raise her chicks is another great adventure. Even if you don't keep a roo, a hen may go broody. It would be easy to ask around & find someone local who can spare a few eggs. OR You could even buy some fancy eggs of a breed that's on your wishlist. (If you don't already have a "wishlist" you soon will. LOL)
