I like the concept of free ranging, but I just reinforced the value of an enclosed run today. My girls put up quite a racket this morning and when I looked out the window, there was a hawk on the ground trying to find a way into their run. If it wasn't for the enclosed run, I likely would have lost one today.

Bought 20 ducklings around 3 weeks old, 5 adult females and 2 adult males. Traded the 2 males and 2 females for 14 juvie ducks around 2 months old. Drove over 6 hours today. Tomorrow driving even more to trade another 2 females for 14 more juvie ducklings. Then Sunday is the animal swap! Going to pick out which ducklings I like most then the rest are going to the swap. Pictures will be updated in the morning!

This is the same coop I have. Then I kept buying more birds... It's really nice! Glad your girls are safe!

I need to do some research on muscovies and how to keep them with chickens. I'd absolutely love to add some ducks to my barnyard!

Muscovies are great with chickens! I had chickens with my Muscovies but ended up selling chickens for more Muscovies!

My biggest concerns would be how messy they are, how to provide a "pond," and food.

They don't need a pond. they arn't very fond of swimming. They only bathe when they feel dirty. They don't spill water every where unless they are ducklings. They eat just like a chicken. It's the perfect chicken-not chicken-

So would a small plastic kiddy pool work? And I can just feed them the layer I feed my hens, age permitting?
