INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I think experimentally keeping quail out with chickens would improve the smell and probably production too. I kept a handful if them outdoors with the pheasants, and everyone got along fine. I enjoy quail as pets though. They make so many cool noises and are just too cute. Would love some.

Working more seriously toward moving, even though I haven't graduated yet. Everything is falling apart around me, it seems. Neighborhood is too awful. Need to move, and that's going to be a pain, no matter how we slice it. Have two months left of school before the end of the semester, but family is clamoring to get us moved to the Bedford area, which would be safer at least, and closer to more family. I'm not sure about zoning though. Don't want to give up my turkeys.

***Edit*** Been looking up laws in Bedford, but don't see anything against turkeys except usual prohibitions against bad smells and noise. Sounds like this might be doable after all.

I've decided to sell my quails again!! I am getting a bit grossed from their droppings smell. Also with my new arrivals of Muscovy's, I don't pay much attention to the quails. Anyone want quails, cage, waterier system and all? They just started laying!! The two pictures with the red feeders aren't laying yet. They have 2 more weeks to go before laying eggs.
*I took these pictures before I cleaned out their dropping pans...*

I believe I'm more then crazy! I'm defiantly obsessed!:drool :wee
I just can't stop myself. No two Muscovy's are a like! The ones I'm getting is one pure bred White Muscovy, and 3 Muscovy's mixed with Pekin.. I already have a new home for the mixes. All I want is the lovely Pure White one. I have an order of 50 Straight run white Muscovy's to do!
Muscovy are easily an obsession! They are so personable, affectionate and fun! I adore my quail but I am not going to do them this year. Dad really enjoyed going fishing so we are going to have a fun summer for him. Aside from geese I probably wont hatch much this year.

I have five hatchlings as of about 4am this morning. :love I moved the oldest four to the brooder while I had the chance between pips. Still waiting on the last egg, but I'm pretty sure I heard peeping from it this morning, so it's possibly internally pipped? :fl Anyway, here's some cuteness for the morning. :love :love

Awww too precious!!! Congrats!
My Dominique hen is feeling much better.

I've looked for mites on her every time I give her medicine, and have not found even one on her for the past few days.

It was the sunflower oil that I put on all the areas where I found the mite parties, and rubbed into the feathers and on the skin in those areas and all around. It smothered the mites, and totally non-toxic to the bird!
That's great news, thanks for sharing the experience!

I'm hoping I still get to see you once in a while! But yes family nearby is very important.

We have 1 last goat to kid, 2 little girls born this evening! :yesss: Looks like Mom possibly isn't going to take care of them, will find out by tomorrow for sure.. I have colostrum on hand just in case. She did well cleaning them up but has not nursed them yet. She is my other 1st time mother. Spicy is last to kid, expect any day.

Here's the closest to comprehensive list of symptoms:

Slurred speech, transient accents/speech defects, very slow movements and speech. Light headedness. Occasional drooling and "just shutting down". Numbness/tingling/itching on one or both sides of the body (esp hands and face). Strange facial expressions. Numbness on one side of roof of the mouth. Electric, pulse-like feelings down back, especially when neck is inclined forward. Extreme fatigue. Inability to concentrate. Feeling of tightness through ribs and spare ribs (esp through back). Difficulty breathing deeply. Feelings of being very hot (quite often) or cold (less often now, used to be all the time right after the accident).

Severe brain fog, difficulty remembering, putting facts together or retrieving facts, especially as they pertain to math, seemingly. Difficulty sleeping. Inability to sleep through the night (wake up too early, often sweating, with headache, rapid pulse, hard heartbeat, no nightmares--just can't stay asleep). Feelings of hopelessness. Mood swings.

Spasms brought on by sudden noises, movement, flashing lights, pain, plus other stuff we haven't figured out yet. Symptoms may get worse with rapid changes in weather.

High blood pressure (generally around 160/115, sometimes 178+/120 but usually 150-160/100-120). High pulse which is often very hard (enough that paper in hands will begin flapping or that bed springs will creak when I'm lying motionless). Chest pain, pain down left arm and on left side of neck, sometimes accompanied by nausea.

Constant pain and feeling of sloshing or heaviness in RLQ, esp around right ovary which gets more severe when ovulating or in the couple weeks before menstruating, and also when area is generically palpated. Pain in back near spare ribs, sometimes one side or both. Missing or late, very heavy periods. Decreased appetite. Decreased urination but normal kidney function and electrolyte levels. Constipation. Thinning hair on scalp but increased body hair. Acne. Swollen throat. Rash on back of neck.

Legs that become exceedingly heavy and stiff. Trouble walking (feet will point off at weird angles, poor balance and coordination, heavy legs that won't bend right, shuffling). Poor posture, and inability to maintain good posture. Difficulty getting muscles to relax (esp in legs). Muscular tremors/spasms in face, arms, neck. Smacking myself in the stereotypical "retarded" fashion, and otherwise.

Headaches (behind eyes, right temple, back of head, whole head, sometimes whole right side of head only, sometimes going down neck and back, sometimes as many very acute stabbing or pulsing headache points).

Also having vision and smell/taste problems. Often have blurry and/or double vision (sometimes even more than double vision). Eyes don't want to track things together. Eyelids don't want to cooperate either, so one's often droopier than the other (left usually opens better). Noticed that my cake batter Chapstik doesn't smell like cake batter since the car accident last December (still smells good, but hasn't returned to smelling like cake batter, which is what it smelled like before the accident). Noticed yesterday that my chocolate soy milk tasted very odd. Odd things like that.

"Episodes" may or may not be preceded by headaches, and entail major problems with speech, balance, muscular coordination, impaired vision, numbness/tingling/itching/twitching, muscular weakness, spasms (esp in arms, neck and face). Usually also involve pain in right lower quadrant. Always involve very slow movements and speech, generally involve intense fatigue.

***Not a doctor*** just to put that out there. You're episodes sounds like seizures. I had a girl that just quit from work, and her seizure's sounded very similar to what you've described in your episodes. Hers were also brought on by a severe car accident.
In all the doctors that you've seen, have you seen an Internist? I saw an Internist for the first time two years ago, and he is the best doctor I've ever been to. Our first meeting was terrible, very awkward, but I do think that was all in my head because I was sooooooooo nervous about seeing a doctor. For the first time I was treated for what I said was wrong rather than for how heavy I am. I felt very listened to. Dr. Robert Anderson. He has a practice at St Vincent's Anderson, but I believe he has a few other offices closer to Indianapolis if you're interested.

Hi guys, been awhile. Life has been crazy busy. I was rather disappointed that I only had two eggs hatch, I left the rest for an additional week. It looked like something happened midway and development stopped. I kept my incubator sealed up and safe, so I don't know. I also have my grandma's farm innovation's styrofoam bator. There will be no more of that.

Then all four of my OEs died (my first ever hatch from November) as did my white Silkie roo I was trying to rehome. I believe they may have froze to death. The five of them refused to sleep anywhere but outside. We had all that rain, and then a freeze come through. I haven't gotten but a dozen eggs since Christmas. I'm just really feeling down with my birds currently.

The FibroFly Ties are a little over a month old, they're still in the house. I'm waiting for the weather to level out before I put them in the garage. My original guess (hope) was two females, I was suggested one male and one female at hatching because of head shape and such. Based on at hatch wing development, it looked like one and one. Now they both look identical.

I don't think I'll be adding any additional birds this year, minus ducklings once the muscovys finally start to lay. Especially since I don't know what my grandma will be taking, or when I'll get a new coop up.

The last baby hatched at about 11:30 last night. :love Here's the peeper squad this morning! Numbered in French, of course, because they're Marans. ;)
