INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Lol. I took two years of french in high school - you think I would remember. But, that was quite awhile ago. ;) At least it is pronounced differently. Lol

Yeah, so it sounds all neat and French like the others, but when you write them down... I may end up calling that little one Glace anyway, as in the French word for 'ice'. I thought for sure that egg was frozen because Nadine laid it earlier than her usual time and I couldn't collect it until I got home from class that day. It was out in the freezing cold for a few hours and was ice cold when I collected it. I really didn't think it was going to hatch, but surprise! :D

I think they're called silver duckwing. DS really liked the look of Modern game bantams but we had a very hard time finding them (affordably & in a small number). Several people kept telling me how wonderful OEG are as pets, so I found someone who had seramas for DD & OEG for DS.

Sadly: The P.O. ignored the senders directions to hold for pick up. The poor eggs left the PO at 7:30am Fri and bounced around all day in a mail truck. After our mail was delivered at 4pm - still no eggs! I called & they tracked down the carrier who admitted that she forgot to deliver the package. She came to our house with the eggs. I even left a note on our mailbox the day before that we were expecting a very important package. Our reg woman (who's awesome) was not working last week.

On the plus side, the temps were very mild last week and the eggs were packaged the best I'd ever seen. There were a few detached air bubbles rolling around some eggs, but others looked OK. I let them rest for 2 days.

I LOVE Silver Duckwing OEGBs! :love :love I hope some hatch for your DS. :) Glad they were well packaged and in good shape despite all the extra traveling they did!

This is a Silver Duckwing OEGB hen that I saw in show last year. She was so adorable! :love They're like miniatures of my darling Dorkings.

BUT, my favorite variety for OEGBs is Fawn Silver Duckwing like this handsome guy. :love I was very near taking some of these guys home from the Ohio Nationals in November, but darn if I don't have an iron will when it comes to chicken math!

Here are the 1st 5 chicks. Round 2 starts tomorrow!

The two standing in back are from Oopsie. She's a genetically a mauve orp but has a strange recessive white gene (so she looks creamy-yellow white instead of mauve) and her chicks can be a wide variety of colors. The smaller one laying down is a black orp. Father was likely a lav or blk/lav split orp.

What colors do you think Oopsie's chicks will be?
Mauve & Blue?
or
Blue & Black?

These 2 below hatched from eggs from one of my pullets: (silver laced orp, blue silver laced orp, or buff Colombian orp...... Based on egg size, shape, & color, I could only narrow it down to those 3 moms)

This particular chick may have come from my Buff Colombian pullet x my silver laced roo

Last summer's laced chicks (below) had that sort of face mask.

Yes, I can see the resemblance. :) The Dorkings are on my wishlist. It's a long list so it may take a few years. My big problem is so many orp varieties & so little space! That's why I let the kids hatch some bantams. Big chicken personalities that take up less space.

So cute!

Anyone know the laws pertaining to selling eggs here? I've looked online but I'm a bit confused if I need a permit. If I quite literally set up a stand in my yard and sell my eggs, so not traveling to a farmer's market or retail, what are the rules? Sorry, I'm very new to this :D

When I went out to do chores, saw cat prints out in the snow. All winter long, no prints other than my dogs have been out there. I was worried that it might be a bobcat because we saw it on the cameras last week, but it wasn't clear. I also found chalk white poos out in the yard. Since, I saw the prints this morning, I was able to look and saw that it is just a tabby cat. Dh has put cameras up at most angles around the house. I told him I want a chicken coop camera!

@kenzietee Welcome! I am sure someone with experience selling eggs will be able to answer your question.

I think you have either two dark Blues or a Mauve and a dark Blue. That doesn't look black enough for Black to me. Reminds me of my Blue Cochin, Cazzie, when she was a chick. She was super dark and I thought she was Black, but she feathered out dark Blue. :)

Haha, I get that. Pretty sure my 'want list' is over 50 breeds and varieties at this point. It's hard to decide between what I know I like and what I think I might like, temperament-wise. Too bad coops cost money!

I was asked a while back to post a link regarding that on a thread compiling laws for all of the states. Let me see if I can find it again. :)

EDIT: Here is the thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ur-state-country.1124931/page-2#post-17365713

This is what I ended up posting there, not sure if it helps at all as these links are apparently a few years old now:

Peeper pictures for today! First, a bad cell pic, but this was too cute to miss. That's one zonked out peeper! :love

Un is comfy.jpg

I graduated them from just towels to shavings today, which took some getting used to.

3 Frantic peepers.jpg

After some reassurance, instinct kicked in:

5 shavings fling.jpg
8 secret meeting.jpg

They were so busy scratching through their shavings that they lost track of time and got a bit cold. :love I reminded them of where the EcoGlow is, and they're some happy, busy peepers now! :love :love
