INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

That's definitely what will happen!

If you really want them to love you, try bringing out some mealworms. Give them 1-2 near you & then hold them out for the birds to take from your hand . Not all chickens enjoy being held, but even those more flighty birds will learn to come to you for treats.
They're going to be spoiled rotten.

Had to put my bantam Cochin down today. She has a bad prolapsed vent & really bad sour crop. I tried some home remedies but her condition did not improve. This morning she was just lying there, I thought she had passed on her own. But when I got closer she lifted her head. I didn’t want her to suffer anymore so I decided to cull her. It’s never an easy decision to make.

So will my chickens start to recognize me and run to me instead of from me? I feel like they're starting to do that since I am the bringer of food and water. Lol

Our big girls in the main coop in the backyard RUN to the front of the fence when we open the back door. Guess I need to oil it if I want to fool them. ;) When they were babies, we trained them by saying 'chick, chick' then giving them something special. Now they come to the fence to greet us even without saying 'chick, chick' on the chance we have something.

The new chicks are being trained the same way. It's all about the treats!

Treats definitely help! I’ve found that with all my of hens, once they start laying eggs they get a bit more comfortable around me. Not sure if that’s a typical behavior or just my flock?:idunno

She looked sweet.

I had one that died of prolapsed vent. She died quickly and I saw what the problem was when I looked her over.
