cow is done and in the freezer and wow, lot of work! I even had room for soup bones, but every freezer I have is full now. Was too tired to calculate total finished weight but will share soon. Tomorrow we hope to get summer crops planted especially the corn. By the time the Cornish X are ready to process we should have room. I did order Brown Chinese gosling from Meyer hatchery this weekend. There are no local breeders and I've had great luck with their stock. I have 1 younger hen brooding 3 eggs, 1 older hen I haven't found a nest yet. They are the best layers by far but my flock is getting old.

@Faraday40 So sorry you are experiencing some sadness. It's a good thing chickens give a lot of good experiences and memories to help balance out the hard times.

Something similar here. Turkey babies hatching today. But three of last week's babies up and died. Not really sure why. It's kind of a turkey thing to find ways to die. But generally that doesn't happen with mine. So I'll be more anxious over these new babies this week.

I will send you a message if I need room. Cornish cross grow fast, so it will depend on freezer space by then. I have the bones cut down to working pieces to make broth or stew.

Poults are HARD to raise. I swear, they want to die. You have to be very diligent teaching them to eat and drink. If they make it that first week they are good to go. I have kept the BB meat birds and heritage too. Expensive to keep and raise. Love turkeys but like pheasant and Peacock.. very hard to raise the hatch-lings.

Does anyone have acknowledgement on treating a dog for roundworms? Any information would help! Nova weighs 27 pounds.

My girl Nova vomited some food with roundworms in it the other day. I've never had this issue before. I don't see how my girl got them when she has been given de-worming/ prevention medication on the normal routine vet check up at every 3 months. Nova is turning 8 months old on the 26th. She was just given a wormer 2 months ago. I called the vet and they said the wormers sometimes don't always work. I've been paying $45 for each wormer for it not to work!?! She has had one at 8 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks, 14 , 16 , 24 , and then her big girls wormer at 6 months old.
I gave Nova "8 in 1 safe-guard 4 Canine Dewormer" For the first time yesterday. It comes in 3 dosages for a 3 day period. I just gave her the second dosage and I haven't seen any worms come out. I didn't dig through her stools though. But before I gave her the de-wormer, she had solid light brown stools, now she has a dark green gooie/liquid stools.

I'm worried about Koda now. He is due for his next worming next week when he turns 8 weeks.

Strongid used to work well, or HappyJack. The problem with wormers is a real issue. Worms, parasites become resistant to a product and it no longer works. This is why I lost 2 goats this year. If your vet isn't helping you, its time for another vet. With any animal its a broad scale problem. I have 2 barncats but no dogs anymore. Have an open discussion with your vet, hopefully he can help more.

Finally got my babies outside! 6 duckling and about a dozen leghorn and EE chicks. I will have to get pics . Hopeful for an EE rooster but not seeing one so far.

Met a great person this weekend also! Not a thread member. yet! Very old school traditional folks. Buying all my eggs to establish a colorful chicken flock and eggs. Not concerned about breeds as much as egg color, wants a mixed flock. I am looking for a Maran rooster, NOT aggressive to improve my OE lines. My last OE hen has proven infertile.

My silkies are sitting on some EE, OE, and possibly silkied EE eggs. Have about two weeks left for them to hatch. I'm sure we'll have roos hatch.
