INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

The seramas hatched on day 20 & the orp on day 21.... so the orp's only a day younger. The seramas are not the teeny tiny kind, but my orps are very big. The blue orp's mom is 10 lbs. Her daughter last spring grew even larger!

This was "Big Blue" at about 4+ months when we sold her. Although bigger than the mama & already laying, I liked her mama's comb better. I wonder how much Big Blue weighs now..... She had amazing, shiny, metallic-like feathers which I never could capture in a pic.

My current blue orp chick is the 1/2 sister. Same giant mom, but the daddy is a silver laced orp. I haven't decided what to do with her. I may want to see if I can get some blue laced orps if I put her with another silver laced orp. It depends on what she looks like as she matures.

Of course the current blue orp thinks she's a bantam. LOL Here's her "family."

Oooh, I'm excited to see how she turns out now, too, and to see what you get if you do breed her! Blue laced Orps sure are pretty! :love

Beak trim?

I never had to trim a beak before but does this look long? This is the 10 week old orp. There are some bricks around the perimeter of the run, so I figured the birds can use those to do their own maintenance. Should I attempt to file it down or will she probably figure it out on her own?

I agree with @jchny2000 , it doesn't look long enough to warrant intervention, at least not yet. I just had to trim my little dude, Winston, and it was much longer than that. Wish I had thought to take a picture now as an example.

I think my mystery chicks are Maran. Identical to our other hatch! Welsummer chicks have a different color. I wound up with 3 chicks. I adore Maran so am hoping we've got a new flock this year!

Here's hoping! :fl That's a lot of beautiful eggs if so! My Marans girls are laying up a storm already! They're also a bunch of busybodies who like to be in my way all the time, though, so I guess good luck with yours if they do all turn out to be Marans. :p Kidding, of course! I wouldn't trade 'em for the world. :)

I'm convinced they are Maran, I'm very happy! Now hoping for at least 1 hen. I'll get a picture tomorrow, they are identical to the 3 older chicks. The bigger chicks are feathered so they moved out to the big brooder in my feed trailer. Its holding temps at 80 degrees and we will lower it as they mature. I have a blue Maran hen but her eggs aren't very dark.

I love this expression! She definitely looks like a curious one.

That's Vivienne and she's the least nosy out of the three sisters, believe it or not. :p I guess that should tell you how nosy they are overall!

:yesss: Can't wait to see!

-0- eggs today! 5 weeks to spring.
Have a family interested in Dixie's bull calf.
Dixie calf.jpg

He is 7 months now and very "randy" already. I had planned to keep him but I have enough milk cows. This family needs a bull for their Jersey herd, good fit. Will possibly meet tomorrow.
Belle our LGD had a short meetup with our pet dog Remi today. Brought her indoors, nose to noses. I've taken Remi to her fence every day for about 15 minutes so they know each other. Belle is ok, Remi is too wiggly and overwhelming for her yet. Belle has only known goats and cats not other dogs. Belle had that "what are you creeping me out" look and was very uncomfortable, so I cut it short.
No goat kids yet, I am not expecting any until late Feb, early March. I brought Eve indoors to meet my Dad, he was amazed how big she is I'm guessing around 160lbs. Very gentle Nubian doe. Lots of nuzzles and lovins for Grampa. A goat in the house? Yep linoleum floors, its worth the cleanup if necessary to make Dad happy. He fed her baby carrot treats and lots of hugs.

Looking for white &/or black long saddle or sickle feathers. Also any black/ white polka dot guinea feathers.

DD's next dance recital will need some feathered head pieces. If you happen to process any black or white roos (or find some good condition molted feathers) please send me a private message for my address. Feathers are light weight & I'm willing to pay for postage.

In 2017 I made these hairpieces for all the girls ( They did a bird-like ballet & flapper tap routines)

This year DD will dance the black swan & her best friend is the white. I probably won't begin assembling the hairpieces until April, so please be on the look out for me. Thanks.

Whoo hoo! We've gotten 6 eggs two days in a row. After a looooong drought of eggs from starting with some fresh pullets, production is finally getting close to consumption When the other 4 pullets get going we won't be able to get rid of them all! LOL!
Production is up here too!

I like to have about a doz eggs or so in the fridge. During the winter months, we had barely enough for our own consumption. Today we have 2 doz eggs stored.... which means we can now eat eggs anytime we want & we may also start selling eggs soon.

Sold my Mandarin Ducks! The weather was getting too crazy for them and our pipes were freezing up. I felt it wasn't fair to Mandarins to go a couple days with the same water, and not having a pool to swim in. They kept climbing on the waterier and pooping on it and in the water. I couldn't give them a kiddie pool to clean themselves, because our pipes froze or water hose was froze. They stopped eating for 2 days until I went to the store and bought fresh bottled water. So I said enough was enough. I wasn't going to make these lovely ducks suffer because I wanted to keep them. They now live in Niles, IL.
We have a future new Addition to our family also. My husband just had to have this little puppy. My husband paid a deposit on her and she will be flown to Chicago Airport last week of March or first week of April. She was born Feb 2nd the day at my Birthday! Her name will be Stella!
Newborn..jpg Newborn.jpg

Stella is most defiantly masking Merle with her gold coat. Once she comes home, we will be having her Genetically tested for a range of diseases, and a full Genetic Coat color Panel. Stella has a high chance of having blue eyes.

Our EEs are laying again after stopping for around a month. The Ameraucana started laying again too. We now too have 2+ dozen of eggs!
