INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Were in lake village. Nappanee is just under 2 hours for us. That’s doable for us if we can bring them in on a weekend

They only process on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Birds have to arrive either the night before, or between 5 a and 7a (I believe) on the processing day.

Is mouth breathing normal with chickens, or do they do it like dogs pant when they get hot?

The coop is probably 5 degrees cooler then the outside, but I can cut some venting holes if thats too warm for them and put a small fan in

ETA: they are acting normal, usual curiousness and activity.. they just remind me of a dog in summer

My Orpingtons pant a lot in the summer. They don't like the heat & during the dog days of summer, they sit in the shade under a tree & pant. They also may pull their wings away from their bodies to increase air flow.

Curious if any of you have had experience with Buff O roosters. Good tempered or bad tempered?

:caf
I'd say good tempered overall - but there can always be an occasional bad individual.

Almost all of my orpington boys have been good to amazing. (Never had a "buff" though) I had only 2 lav orp cockerels (out of more than 50) which were unpredictable. Not mean, but not the gentle, docile, roosters that we expect. I've had more of the opposite- big, gentle, sweet, people friendly roosters that follow us around like puppies. It's hard to eat them when they act like pets.

We have one buff Orpington rooster named Ken we raised from a chick. He’s very tentative to the hens but he’s rough on them, more than half our hens have bare backs. He also likes to attack my gf and almost any other person besides me. Needless to say, he’s separated from the girls. He’s been the only buff rooster we’ve had tho.

Fermenting Jalapeno and tomatoes, be a few weeks til they're ready!
Bresse are getting huge! Waiting to see how they turn out as adults. The 2 turkey puppies are doing great, I just adore poults. Loving lil lap babies! One of my broody scovy hens attacked the little tom, actually tore skin on his breast. She's been confined GRRR. I took her off her nest her eggs were not fertile. Blukoted the little tom and he is ok. He simply explored the open coop and she attacked him. I need to seek out a new drake, None of our hens have had a hatch. I suspect he is too old.
ETA: glad I took this picture, I saw my glass weight fell below the veggies! Fixed it this morning.
