EGGS! Everyone is starting to lay! Still waiting on the EE/OE and Ameraucana.
Sad day on our farm. Daisy, our little Jersey heifer that showed in 4H last year calved today. Beautiful heifer calf but was stillborn. Had to pull it. Daisy went into milk fever and wasn't able to push. Jersey are more prone to it, first case I've had here in 7 years. I keep IV calcium on hand and I did an IV into her milk gland. I'm sad for the calf but very worried about my Daisy May! Milk fever causes them to lose muscle control and can kill them. Flat love this little lady very gentle cow.
Vet told me I'm doing everything he would have done. My cow mentor/neighbor also said the same, came and looked her over. He told me some cows just do not show the signs of milk fever right away. Former dairy farmer been at it near 50 years so I'm taking his advice. Going to be a long night, I have a heavy sleeping bag covering her she's cold and quivering. Hourly checks in case we need to give her a 2nd dose of calcium.

I hope Daisy recovers.
Welcome to BYC and our thread!
I'm not far, Pendleton. I have American Bresse, Barred Rock, Leghorn, Black Copper Maran, Lavender Americana, EE & OE. Not all have resumed laying but I think I can get you some eggs. Send me a message if any of the breeds interest you. Every breed I own has a breed specific rooster. Been keeping chickens about 7+ years so I'm very selective on my roosters temperaments. I really won't need eggs back, just want to give your kids a chance to experience it!
