Oi, I know what you mean . . . . I have a box of books that I have managed to collect and have had no time to read

Maybe this summer . . . tho since it is my first summer with chickens . . . . idk how much I will get read . . . maybe I will sit outside with the kids after I get off work and read in the evenings hahaha maybe. . . .

Think that might be wishful thinking on my part

Yep, wishfull thinking for me too. I still have 2 brooders going, 1 teen turkey pen, 1 teen chick pen, all my big chickens, 3 cats, 2 parrots, a turtle, and DH. We still have to build permanent coops for the chicks, get the garden in finally, Relay for Life events, and prep for the party. Oh, and once veggies come in, I will be canning daily. Maybe I'll donate the books to a chairity

The fun part is building the coops and pens. Building coops and pens is a challenge. I try to use scrap, pallets for the base of my coops, wood from my own trees for the posts. I used small sticks and logs to build a gate. A real rustic look. And it is free except for the screws. I used a 67 Chevy Truck Hood as a roof on my Speckled Sussex coop. AND HAVE A HUGE 68 El Dorado Caddy hood to be another roof for another soon to be build coop. Lots of fun being creative in coop building.

I am soo excited

I cant wait to meet all of you !!!!! This is gonna be soo fun...

I am hoping to finish my coops and run this weekend. 1st coop is finished except for putting new latches/locks on the doors, 2nd coop is all framed out, just needs plywood and paint, and the run has all the posts in the ground it just needs fencing put up . . . I wish I had made the run at least 2 feet wider tho . . . but since the kids will free range most of the time, just be secured up at night it doesnt really matter. AND i have already caught and gotten rid of one opossum and 1 raccoon, and the trap is outside set again. Nice thing about living in east tn is the abundance of coon hunters who want any coons i trap . . . and honestly I don't care what happens to them as long as they aren't on my property waiting to eat my chickens . . . . lol

I actually got an email from the guy that took tuesday night's coon of a picture of his 11 month old redbone coming down from the tree after treeing the raccoon, was pretty impressive picture!

"Dear Manager Person,
Please excuse Coop Crazy from work today. If you don't, we'll all come to work with them and bring our chickens.

SIncerely,
miss_jayne"

do you think that will work???

CoopCrazy, I think Miss Jayne is onto something

jywel417, good luck with your coops, sounds like a busy weekend like ours! I wish there weren't a lot of coons here, we had 3 attacks last year, now everyone is safe and secure as well. We tried the trap but it didn't amount to anything. Oh, well, least my girls are safe!
Miss Jayne, your "Dear Boss" letter is priceless!
