WOOOT ! I love my orphs, my sick one atm is an orph. she came from the hatchery with a spraddle looking leg, but only affected the one. We treated for spraddle leg, didn't help. took some xrays and couldn't tell much of anything with her away other than there weren't any obvious breaks. She is now 3 months old, has her one way bad leg, has managed to get her "good" leg twisted at some werid angle, so her life atm consists of sitting in my lap, cooing at me, eating, and getting baths and blowdrying. Dr. Rick at work (exotics dr and orthopedic, we work with the local raptor center and do their work for free so he has done orthopedic work on hawks, owls, etc etc etc) wants to sedate her, take a couple good xrays for him to evaluate and possibly do some surgery on her. He was nervous about it at first and I told him "Look Rick, if you want to try to do something with her, try it. If she dies under anestesia, I was having to euthanize her anyways. If you do surgey on her legs adn after that she can't walk, well she can't walk now, so if it is something you want to attempt, go for it!"

Sooooo even tho I know Little Orpington Annie's chances are slim, I am rather attached to her and hope maybe he can do something to make her more functional. I am trying to fatten her up by feeding her 24% starter and canned kitten food (mmmmmmmmmm)

Anyways, another long story short here, put some adolecent quail and older chicks in my brooder on the porch yesterday when I moved some of the older kids outside to their padlocked coop in their padlocked run (YAY ITS 90% FINISHED !) and got home tonight to find one dead quail, one very pecked head and very cold, and one semi pecked head. I tried to save the cold one but she passed on me about 10 min ago but the other one I cleaned up the wound, gave it some sugar water to boost its energy, gave it antibiotics in its water, and kitten food for temtation to eat. I also have one of the polish chicks in with it b/c he has an eye infection. I have also since taken the remaining 2 healthy quail, 3 polish, and 1 frizzle out of the porch brooder and back into a brooder in the bathroom for the time being. I am hoping these other 2 make it thru the night so I can go into work at our Exclusively Small Animal, Pocket Pets, and Exotics practice with 3 chickens tomorrow LOL they love me, in fact aobut 50% of our client base asks me how my chickens are doing LOL

Soooooo anyone coming to the swap that has quail?? I really got attached to the little guys and while I had originally planned on housing the adults with my chickens I am not against building an extension or something for my quail if I need to keep them separate from the chickens.

Oh yeah, happy monday everyone ?

Not really good but maybe I can make it better! I am heartbroken but God always has a plan!

((((HUGGZ)) to Schultz.

A happy note! I was able to get the suprise, and I brought it home. It needs a little TLC where it broke open, but once we fill it up with goodies, it should be fine. It's something that I fell for as soon as I saw it:

a chicken pinata!

People aren't supposed to have them at the park, but they do anyway. Luckily, this one was confiscated before it was ruined!
