So, today when I went to clean my brooder I put the kids into a tote with a bunching shavings in it. They all started to take baths!:clap It was hilarious and adorable. As a new chick mom I have never seen this before. So now I'm wondering, should I make a little indoor tubby time for them? I can use that tote but what does everyone recommend as a substrate?

100% yes... I'm not worried about quarantine for any vaccines... so I bring in a clump of dirt with grass, roots, and all for them to enjoy and stick it right inside the brooder... sometimes in a little pan... this gives them some exposure to the things in the ground so they can build a little immunity before going out full time and also provides them a source of natural grit.

As you see though they will use shavings. Some folks use peat moss, but I think that's added to outside baths. Chicks are SO cute dirt bathing... and happy to. :love
