My city allows chickens, but the HOA doesn't. I read on one of the other threads, that someone was able to keep thier chickens by saying they are 'indoor pets', that go out during the day, but sleep inside at night. Has anyone had any experience with this scenerio? I'm hoping this might be the loophole that will allow me to not 'live in secret'.

How did this end up? We live out in the country but there are 11 houses on a dead end road with covanents/HOA. We got chickens first in hopes to change the covanent but that back-fired. After we read the covanents more carefully we believe it does not say we cannot have them. It says homoewners are limited to " 2 domesticated non-exotic household pets." It also says in another part that poultry may not be brought upon the common areas. We consider our chicken household pets that live in a "house" and belong to the household. They are definately pets as the kids have names and play with them almost daily. Just curious if you were able to hold your ground in terms of chickens being household pets. Thanks so much!

Hi!

So far, so good! Because we keep them in a chicken ark and they are never outside without us very close to them, they are technically not 'outside'. If anyone wants to stop by around 9:00 PM to make sure that I take them in the house to sleep, and not leave them in the ark overnight, I will gladly parade them into the basement (where we keep a large dog crate).

The fact that mine are always contained, has helped with my explainations to neighbors. And, I have had 4 more families ask me about how they can get some.
