Indoor pen setup for pet hen

According to the reviews the cage has seven five star ratings.
But that doesn't mean that it will work for a chicken. Again like others have said (even though I have a feeling we might be being trolled) chickens belong in a flock and this will not work long term. You may dislike the responses here but they have been raising chickens for a long time. The meaning of this forum is to help educate. That's what we are trying to do here.

That doesn’t say anything about the pet’s wellbeing. Yes, this cage will hold a small animal. No, the animal will not thrive or be happy.
The people who bought this cage probably believed the company’s lies and now have an unhappy, sad, depressed pet.

Think about it. These animals (rabbits, chickens, Guinea pigs, and any animal really) aren’t meant to live in tiny cages like these!

For small mammals. Not chickens. And we are all very experienced chicken raisers who are telling you that you would be better off with a different set up. Please listen. We know what we are talking about. From experience.

I don't understand the mad reactions. Everyone just wants the best for you and the chicken. The people who are responding are very experienced and trying to prevent a disaster. The proper response would be, "I didn't realize that. Thank you. I'll be sure to research other options."

Also there are different breeds of rabbits big and small. So comparing size of rabbits and chickens doesn't quite make sense here.

Yes, too small. You know those cages they keep commercial laying hens in? This would be similar. Please reconsider.
We have kept a house chicken, two separate times. The first was a norwegian jaerhon. We used a double decker cage from Critter Nation. Worked out great, easy to clean, small chicken, lots of time outside. The second was just last year. We had a dark brahma hen and our coop wasn’t finished. I built a small pen in our foyer. We live where we get 7 months of winter, several feet of snow and weeks of temperatures below -20. There was no place else to keep her. She did very well as an only chicken, although not ideal for her. We have cats and dogs that she interacted with, plus two humans. However… very dusty, always cleaning, allergies, and the cecal poops are not fun.
It can be done, but it’s really not healthy for the bird or you, there are a good handful of illnesses that you can acquire from chickens, and sleeping in the same room could make you very very sick.
Hope this helps.

You could pretty easily convert a large dog house. Cheaper and bigger. That's what I did for my special needs pullets.

ETA: I added a pic of my converted doghouse. The roof isn't on it in thos pic, but it's over 12 sq ft of interior space and has a roost. It now has an attached run of 45 sq ft, which is just fine for 2 small chickens, esp as one has significant mobility issues.

X2. If you came here for advice , please take it with an open mind. 🙂 Maybe we know what we’re talking about here. 😉 I’ve been raising chickens for almost 4 years now and I still have a lot to learn!

Some of the people replying to you have owned them much longer!
