Indoor pet duck

I give my ducks a heat lamp in the winter. Ducks are also pretty good with the cold. Make sure they have shelter, insulation, and of course food and water and they should be fine. Wood shavings and straw is my personal choice, but I have used shredded paper before. I know there is a ton of info on duck shelters on here already. Good luck! Oh, and for your neighbors, 1 drakes are quiter, 2 put some ceramic duck yard ornaments around so your neighbors won’t notice the living ones.

She would be very happy with another companion and drakes are quieter. I have 1 drake and 1 hen. Can she have a small coop outside fenced in with another duck? I agree that you could hire someone to clean the pen. And you could provide a small kiddie pool. Ducks are messy in small areas with access to water though. If she needs more flock members and attention and you can not provide that, you could find a farm near you with ducks for her to live on.

It sounds like you have a very unfortunate situation going on, sorry to hear that. Having to rehome a pet doesn't make someone a bad person. Given your situation you would not only be improving your allergic condition, but giving your duck a happier life being around other ducks. I am sure whomever you would rehome your duck to wouldn't object to visits. Best of luck.

She has been really happy with being with us and our dog nonstop, but as I am able to get back to work I can’t have her with me constantly and it’s breaking my heart. I never intended to have just one but sadly found out I am highly allergic to duck feces so I can’t bring another duck in the house. I want to do what is best for her.

I actually have an indoor duck who is an only child and he is perfectly happy!! His sibling also died and he did not take to other duckling we tried to give him, he preferred his humans to that. We also had a hard time keeping more than one, they’re messy babies haha! He has a routine to keep getting what he needs but also living indoors. We have a busy lifestyle too and the attention is something we give as much as we can but sometimes it’s hard! If you’re interested in his routine PLEASE message me so we can talk! They get so attached to us and probably would be sad if you had to rehome her, but if no options work that’s okay. I’d love to help you try to get this to work, it was hard doing it on our own and I’d love to help someone else.
