Indy area Chicken work Co-Op

I was glad to see some people get together to help lonelypageturne get her new coop moved. She is also wondering if anyone will be available to help put things together this weekend. I won't be able to get up there, but hopefully someone can.

I think it will be a good idea to see if we can start planning an event in May. Does anybody have a good project they would be ready to work on then?
Thanks to everyone who helped!!I would seriously appreciate of anyone could come out even for a little while this weekend to help work on it

I'm in for anything anyone needs help with. At the least I can provide child care if necessary but I'm not so bad with a paintbrush either

as a matter of fact I paint wonderful murals.
I can't make this weekend

I really need at least a week ahead notice to make it to a project.
We are booked solid, and looks like next weekend too already.
My issue is elder care, my kids are all grown, youngest DD is 22.
My Moms a shut in, Dad has Alzheimer's, advancing to Dementia so its in home care with someone they accept being there.
I have to have time to plan well ahead for someone to be here at all times. Dad will randomly leave mom by herself.
.I agree, we should start to plan now for a project in May! My busy weekend is Memorial weekend, gone all weekend.
My project is a big one so it will be 2 months before we have materials ready.
Guys, think about your most urgent projects, most important to you.
Lets all post what they are, and then pick one, if that sounds OK?

Mine are 2 projects this year:

1) Increasing the pasture area for my goats & calves. I plan to purchase a new roll of field fencing.
We have an excellent electric fence system I'll install after the fence is completed.
Before I start this project, will move the hog pen, its inside the pasture.
Building is in place, have the posts. Plenty of tie wires. Will set the corner posts a few days prior in concrete.
Remaining posts will be Tpost, we set them with the tractors bucket.
Have gates already also. This will be the "Main pasture & housing" only, about 80ft square.

2) Breeding coops.. not even close to that project, have a lot of materials to purchase.
3-4 months away

Have visited racin and a few other members and friends coops to get our main ideas.
So far, Racin has had the best ideas hands down , and was totally impressed with his design

What was his design?

Yeah it's super short notice but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway. There's gotta be other impulsive people in the world besides me lol

I also need more notice so I can't help this weekend!

My projects are:

1.) create new run on south side of my shed for the Isbars once they are separated into breeding pens.

2.) Fence new, smaller free range area to keep chickens away from my dogs!

I doubt I will be ready in time for May, and don't expect help on EVERYTHING on my list. Hopefully someone else has something for us to work on in May!

LOL, i wish i could still be! We used to be very spontaneous, Ugh that doesn't happen now.
You would need to visit his coop, its very functional and "people friendly". Man doors, egg boxes, coop side and man door outdoors, .
Built into the side of their barn. ample roost space as well as floor space. Fast and convenient for daily chores.
Mine will be free standing (out in the field) so its a new construction altogether.

My next big project for this year will be a second run for a big coop so that I can alternate / rotate the chickens grazing area. I have seen more and more hawks this year. We even put up another owl. No Change. I'm giving up on free ranging for this year, until I can come up with a less stressful way of doing it. I'm thinking I would like to wait until at least the June work day as I still need to get supplies too. This would be less than 100 ft of fencing but include putting a gate together. I think my DH could handle the net himself but if not then net supports and hanging a net could be added to the list.

I'm thinking of making breeding pens but it will be in 2015 summer at the soonest

Once a date in May is picked, DH is typically available either a Saturday or a Sunday each weekend. It would be nice to have 2 weeks notice even if a date needs to be picked before a project.

I'm one of those folks that needs a few weeks' notice. I'm handy at doing most things and like to learn about doing things from those that know about them.
May is a hard month for me due to work, and closing on my house. I have to travel for work during May.

My project this year is re-fencing my coop run that was damaged by snow this past winter. While I have my coop run 'ceiling' down, I'm going to finish some stuff on my shed that I never did (drip edge, trimming the shingles, etc.). I can't do this project in May, but will be doing it in June.

My project involves pounding of posts, stretching of chain link fabric, etc. It's such a small area, there's not much room for more than 2-3 people.

The part of the project I need help with is getting the materials home. The rolls of chain link weigh 100lbs. The top rails of the fence are 21' lengths if I get whole ones. I have a fence stretcher, but not a pipe cutter. I would be interested in borrowing a pipe cutter from someone. Does anyone have a trailer that could carry a 21' pipe? So far, my alternative ideas are rent a U-haul, see if K&K fence delivers, or just get half-sections of pipe.

I can be flexible with the dates of getting materials home. They can sit around at my house as good as they could at Menard's or K&K.

We don't have a trailer but Dh can help with lifting. Menards around here offers truck rentals by the hour and mileage.

This is doable, Our tractor has forks! We blew a wheel bearing on our pickup this weekend

Be a week or 2 before we can fix it. We can get Menards to load it. then use the tractor to unload, (unless we have enough hands to manually do it.) then place it where its convenient until the work can be scheduled. We have a full length car hauler type trailer that can haul the pipes also. Can be loaded between the wheels of the tractor and strapped down. I think we have a chop saw to cut pipe, if not a sawzall will work.
