Inexpensive cameras

Following, so I can check these out when I have more time for research! Thanks for all the info so far!!

So far so good for my two. Have them running in the houses as far from the wireless internet router as I can. Trying to induce any signal strength problems I can before I put them out in the coop and run. In the past, my wireless security cameras have had lots of issues where they needed to be power cycled to reset the connection. So far with these new ones we have not had to reset them.

I love my game cameras. If your interested in game cameras, go to YouTube and there are plenty of videos and explanations on what to look for in a camera depending on what quality pictures or video you want and for daytime and nighttime pictures.
I have a couple of these cameras and they take wonderful distance nighttime pictures. The only drawback is that it takes the small micro SD cards.

This video was taken with one of these cameras early one morning before the sun was up. Black and white pictures/video for the nighttime and color pictures/video during the day.

Regular ones that cost about 20-25 bucks. I did not see the benefit in paying more to be able to pan and tilt. Could be useful for the run, but the coop would never need it.

I also bought a pair of the "outdoor" housings for them. They are not official since the cameras are not meant to be outside, but you can see on Amazon that many sellers sell housings for the camera so that they are somewhat protected from rain/dust/etc... They are not going to be perfect, still lots of ways for water to get in. But it is better than just slapping the bare camera up on a fence post.

Ohh.....and Amazon will sell you an extended warranty (think it was 3 years) for something like 5 bucks since the cameras are so cheap. Maybe not the most ethical since any failure will most likely be water intrusion, but.......

After reading here and reading on Amazon, I did order 2 of the cameras today. At that price it seemed worth it to take a chance. I would really prefer cameras with batteries but those are way more expensive. I can experiment with these cameras and figure out where I am able to get WiFi reception and where the best places are to have cameras. I expect that next year the battery cameras will be so much cheaper than they are this year. Then I'll buy some of those.

One thing about the game cameras, they are pretty much waterproof, dustproof, etc. They are meant to be outdoors. I have some mounted on trees and some on posts and one on a telephone pole in my yard and they are battery operated, so I'm not restricted on where I can put them. I bought rechargeable batteries and a charger. We live very rural and I sell my eggs, There was a time a couple of years ago that my egg money was disappearing. I caught the thief on camera. It was someone we know. The drawbacks are I have to collect the cards, take them in the house and read them on my computer. I do have a portable viewer that is the same size as a smartphone and most of the cameras have a viewer in the camera. There are card readers that you can attach to your smartphone so you can use it as a viewer. Still not WiFi. My husband wanted to buy me a WiFi game camera but they are quite expensive for an old sole on a fixed income.

I hope everyone post their opinion if using these wyze cameras with protective covers outdoor, and please post some pictures. Just curious. I do have some outdoor security cameras around the property too that work with a DVR. I should be able to access the DVR by the WiFi but can't get it to work. The DVR is in another building. I do have a netbook computer that hooks up fine in the other building. I got frustrated with it so I'm giving it a break and have gone on to other things for now. One day I'll give it another try. I'm supposed to be able to view the cameras on a phone app. I had it working briefly. Have to figure that out too.
