This has been up for a few weeks now....floor is bone dry, and the kids seem to be happy. We'll be making a few more. What are your thoughts about this type of waterer? (I wish I could do an automatic system, just not now)

As close to automatic as you can get without having to run pipe and come up with some storage. The only added thing you must do is make sure its full everyday where with my 55 gal drum storage on my gravity feed system I can wait at least a month without even checking it as long as I see the birds drinking. Teaching them to use the nipples now will make it much easier if you ever do get to build an auto system.

Do you have pics of your system?

We didn't have to train them a bit....they were drinking within a minute!

Now....to deal with an improved feeding method that minimized wasted feed!!

Who Me? This is what part of my system looked like a couple weeks ago. I have since changed to an all drinking cup set-up using the same plumbing. When I run it outside soon, I will use the nipples where it doesn't matter if there is a wet spot or not.

I have this feeding from a 55 gal drum in the hay loft of my barn, it had so much pressure from the long drop that the nipples squirted like a high pressure hose when the birds pecked on it. That is what the cut-off coffee cans are for to catch the excess. I have since added another smaller bucket in the line with a float from the drum which lowered the pressure to where it should be, I have also changed the plumbing by lowering the whole thing and replacing the nipples with drinking cups. This is one advantage of using the black poly pipe with the press on fittings, it is easy to take it apart and redo it if need be without wasting a bunch of pipe and fittings. I'll try to get a couple of new pics in the next few days to show what I have going on now.
