I got a 4 month old Cochin Bantam. We noticed yesterday they her foot looked infected. Really don't know how it happened but figure its from where they lounge in the field behind our property. That field has briers and thorns so that what may have done it in. It doesn't smell funky, she didn't seems to be affected by it and continued to run around our yard like nothing happened.

We cleaned it up yesterday and brought her inside to get her healed up. Picked up some penicillin just in case its needed. Been reading some things on how to treat her but been some clarification.

I got iodine, rubbing alcohol, Epsom salt, and penicillin ready to go. But need some insight before I go doing this stuff and end up accidentally dispatching out last bantam pullet

Now problem number 2.

Yesterday afternoon, we noticed our White Leghorn cockerel limping a bit. We look and saw nothing that threw red flags. Today however, he is really favoring it and limping worse than yesterday. Our coop door is about 2 1/2-3 feet off the ground with the roost inside about 2 feet off the floor.

Any suggests on what to look for or to check out for our leghorn?

I lose the rubbing alcohol. Definitely not to use on open cuts. Soak in epsom and clean with iodine once or twice a day. You could wrap with vet wrap or something to keep the cuts cleaner, but change it daily when you soak. I wouldn't use the penicillin unless you start to get swelling and other signs of an infection that could go bad.

2 1/2-3 feet is pretty high for a bantam. Why not make them a ramp? I'd scour the areas they have access to for glass, barbed wire, other sharp objects. Maybe clear the brambles some if they look hazardous. Check your roost for splinters. It seems there is some hazard somewhere that they are injuring themselves on.

Alright thanks for the info. But i have a ramp on it but they rarely use the full portion of it to get in and out.

Well if your bantam has no problem, then that's good. I hope you find the source of your chickens' injuries!

Well the foot is looking better than it did. Our leghorn is still limping and no idea shy. But I was reading about using St John's wart so I might try that and see
