Infected Toe very swollen Help

Ruth - my worry now is if there is more in the pad but I just couldn't do anymore cutting today. He was so good at one point his eyes looked like they were rolling up in his head but I guess not because as soon as I got it wrapped he couldnt wait to eat and he has been talking all day. Thanks for all your great ideas and experience. I am hopefull that that this will be then end but I am still afraid it wont. Thanks Terri

My husband can just now stand to look at bumblefoot and that's only before the really gross parts! After the first surgery I noticed another chicken had it. She very sweetly flew up onto the gate right in front of me so that I could see her feet. Almost as if she was showing me her feet. I wouldn't be suprised! I love Thelma (half of the duo Thelma & Louise) who is a smart, funny, sassy California Grey Leghorn!!

Congrats again and I hope that he continues to do well and heal!

Dani I too kiss my chickens as well as my goats and any other creature that come to live with me.

I went out and talked to him this morning and he acts fine. He is eating alright so so far so good. I have had some awsome help from lots of great chicken folks. I have never tried to go this far to try and help a chicken but I lost one because I was afraid to try it and I want to do better.

I will give you all a hollar in a day or so when I decide to look at it again. Thanks Terri

Kissing chickens is never recommended due to bad bacteria they can carry--but I do it too--I just can't help myself!

I kiss all my critters--except my fish--I blow my kisses to them

Oh--yeah I kiss my hubby too--hopefully not right after I kiss the chickens.

Hello, well I took the bandage off today and I think the toe look really good. There is a blister looking thing at the base of the toe, I popped it and it had lots of white fluid in it. I also noticed that across the top of the foot it is soft a mushy which I believe to also be fluid. So what do you all think,a do I have to cut the top of his foot now? Is there anything else I can do that will get this to go away.

I really are pleased with the toe, just bummed about the rest. Terri

Is there an odor to the remaining foot tissue? If so, it may be best to take the foot (infection)... the "mushy" part is what I'm concerned about.
I am so glad you went through this with us! I'm dealing with bumble foot right now and am a new chicken mama, so I appreciate your predicament!

No there wasn't any smell at all. I ran out of poroxide so I will get some tomorrow and see if that helps any along with the penicillin shots I am hoping to get a handle on it. I am just not sure how to proceed I hate to take the foot at this point anyway. Thanks for your thoughts.
