Thank you to everyone that added to this thread. I have a 1 year old Rhode Island Red Roo named SaberRoo. He had a broken toe nail and it was infected. Being a new bird mom I didn't know what to do. I soaked it in hydrogen peroxide a couple of times and it didn't help. I also have a friend that is a vet so I asked her first but she stated "I don't know anything about birds. I just work on cats, dogs etc but you need to get the infection out" That is when I came here to see what I could find. Terri because of your bravery and everyone elses encouragement I got the razor, iodine, neo, vet wrap etc and wrapped poor SaberRoo in a towel and took care of his toe. When I began working i realized his toenail was upside down. When I took the scab off the nail came with it. Poor guy! But after reading this thread I am confident that he is going to be ok. After I got him wrapped and gave him a personal snack while still in the house. I took him back to the coop and he hopped right down and joined the others in having dinner. I will check him tonight and change the dressing on Wednesday. Thanks again for this thread!
