I noticed one of my hens had a cut inside her mouth about a week ago. I figured it would heal. I checked it out again today and it looks like it's infected now. It's white and some puss? What should I do?

Procaine Penicillin G is available at most feed stores in the refrigerated medicines. Amoxicillin, Kefex, or other antibiotics are prescription only. You also need 20 gauge needles and 3 cc syringes (4 of each.) Dosage is 1/4 cc or ml inserted 1/4 inch into the breast muscle daily for 4 days. Your vet would have better drugs, and could help with treating it, except many of us don't have vets who see chickens.

This is the best picture I could get of it. (There is a little dirt in there.) I used a qtip to try to clean up the wound and it didn't seem to do much. The white I think is flaps of dead skin?
