Infection in the Third Eyelid Membrane

The only two eye diseases that look like this that I can find are eyeworm and blephara conjunctivitis, which may be due to pasteurella exposure in the drinking water. The symptoms are inflamed eyelids, increased tears, white frothy foam from the anterior corner of the eye, progressing to a millky thick goo. No treatment was listed. It did say that it was rare for worms to be present in the eye when symptoms were worst. I think that eyeworm requires treatment both orally and in the eye.

Ok, this morning I pushed this plug of hardened pus out from behind the third eyelid. The flattened side was up against her eye. I figured if I didn't do something soon, she would lose the eye.

Still on Denagard, still no other symptoms. So, I still do not know what this is. I will keep posting my results. Will do the other eye tomorrow after I see what the eye I already did today does.

The eye I did yesterday is improving. The third eyelid is receding and staring to look close to normal.

Did the other eye this morning and got the other plug of pus out of that eye. Will keep doing drops of Colloidal Silver in the eyes to improve healing of the eyelid. On Day 5 of Denagard. Then will monitor to see if anything returns.

I am having this exact same problem and even the vet doesn’t know what is going on - they are suggesting cancer but I have refused a biopsy so far (feel it might make it worse while we figure out what it is). How did your girl go? Got any tips for me to treat mine?

I would love to know your technique. I’ve been trying to get the plug out of my hens eye for a week now. Did you push a certain way?

Welcome To BYC

This thread is a bit old, so the OP may not respond to you. Do you have photos of your hen's eye?
If there's pus in the eye and it's difficult to remove, you can try applying a warm compress to see if that helps loosen it. General care is to daily rinse the eye with saline, then apply an eye ointment in the eye.

The video below may be helpful to you as well.
