Infestation - mice / pack rats

I did put some water in my bucket with some sunflower seeds floating in the water, enough to cover the water but no takers. My brother told me about this method but he said, especially the rats could jump high enough to get out. It looks like from the video that some mice can too.

The first one in the video was a rat.
These are not meant to cat rats, unless you use a much bigger bucket(30gal).
Yes, the bucket needs a few inches of water in the bottom.
I caught as many as 4-5 at once when infestation was bad.

I think the key is the water level in the bottom of the bucket.
It needs to be deep enough to keep the mouse swimming, if he can get his hind legs on bottom, then he can leap up. If he cant touch bottom, all he can do is swim.
i have around 4 inches of water in my mouse buckets.
I would think a barrell would be needed for rats with about a foot of water in the bottom.

Checked my new bucket today. 4 mice in it.
2 mice in my husband's bucket.
Both are working. Just going to let them sit and continue to work.
How is everybody's buckets doing?

I haven’t had any. 😦

I had to treat coop and chickens today for mites, so it took my whole day.

I had only seen one mite, but it’s never that simple. It wasn’t the funnest thing I’ve ever done.

I’m going to try to drill new wholes tomorrow to get my can raised up higher.

Considering my daughter left down a bowl of food for them to eat :rant
I did manage to catch one. So I know it works at least. Sadly, I know I have a garage full of them left to catch.

I woke up this morning to find my cat eating a mouse. All that was left was the head :sick
I hope I don't find the body later. In the past she just ate the head.

The weird thing is the electronic mouse trap was turned upside down and not where I put it. She must've snatched it right before it entered the trap because there was obviously a scuffle.
I'm thinking I will buy more of those and stick those in the garage to see how well they work since the mice are not jumping in the bucket, like I was expecting.:hmm In the house I have the Victor electronic mouse trap and the Captsure mouse trap and both work. The cat must be feeling better so she is now in the game as well. :celebrate However I don't want her eating them, I just wormed her and I don't know what diseases she can get from eating a mouse.

Soooooooooooooo :th
The last two mornings that I have checked, something has licked off the peanut butter topside.
What the heck!
I think the roller is very sensitive and I have too much peanut butter on the bottom side which weighs it down...or I have spread my peanut butter too wide.
After spreading the peanut butter thinner, it still seems like it's heavier on the bottom side because if I roll it around when I let go of it, that side spins right back to the bottom.
I may have to put a thinner strip of peanut butter in the middle, if it gets licked off tonight.
Gonna see if I have something to hold my cam in there so I can see what's going on.
