i have a chicken I got from my neighbor. Since before I got her she has had a bright red and swollen bulge under her vent. It is maybe a little smaller than a tennis ball. She does not seem uncomfortable but it's been a couple months and it is still there. She does not lay but I have found yolk under their perch about where she sleeps. I am considering taking her to the vet, although I don't know what they will do for her. And, again, she doesn't seem ill or uncomfortable. I have tried soaking her in warm water but I do not think she is egg bound as she would have gotten sick a long time ago. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? I just like this hen and want her to be healthy.Thank you.

Could she be prolapsed? Do a search on her for "prolapse" for pics - that is a very dangerous issue if that's what it is. Other than that, it's possible she has a hernia. But the fact that you are finding egg under the roost where she is roosting is a bit worrisome.
