Info on chick delivery from Cackle Hatchery

I live about 7 to 8 hours away from Cackle so I thought if shipped Monday I would receive them Tuesday. No such luck. I called the post office to double check that they were there waiting for pick up. But no, so hopefully I will get a call from the post office in the morning.

No, no. I should have written, "Today is your ship day." Mine aren't coming for another month or so. In the past, though, mine have been put on the plane at around 6am in Missouri and then arrive here sometime in the late afternoon. I can tell by the sticker they put on them at the airport. It has the times and airport codes on the box ... not actually on the chicks. Then the post office calls me at around 7pm.

It sounds like they may have sent yours by slow boat since you live closer. ;-)

Fingers crossed they show up tonight or early a.m. tomorrow ... especially since you took the day off, which sounds like fun.

They are here:weee

Post office called 7 am this morning. They were shipped Monday. One "doa"

I had ordered 30 (I am splitting the order with a friend). They sent 32 but less the doa, down to 31. I am concerned about one runt-she seems to have splay legs and at last check she is passing blood in her poop. Not sure if this is just stress or she is sick. May need to post this question in another section.

Glad to hear they made it. Sorry about the DOA. Sorry too about the little possibly sick one. Hopefully some TLC will perk her right up.

congrats on recieving your babies! i would seperate the one with bloody stool sounds like it has Coccidiosis. clean the feed/waters and cage with a very weak bleach solution and change out the bedding. also you can get antibiotics from your vet for the sick one. i would google coccidiosis and you can get more info about it. you may want to call cackle hatchery and email them to let them know that you did recieve it sick just in case the others get it.as far as my experiance with them, i placed an order with them, they told me i would get the chicks in may instead my post office called me a week later saying they had arrived, didn't even recieve an email saying they shipped, but at least they are healthy and i had no problems reaching cackle hatchery by phone and they were really nice too

Very doubtful that your 2 day old chick has cocci. More than likely it has a defect, in combination with the splayed leg. It is likely it won't thrive.

Yes, my sick little splay legged chick died. He just didn't thrive and I think she may have been injured during shipment. I had read that it would be unusual for a 1 or 2 day old chick to have cocci. All the other chicks are thriving and doing great. They were one week old Sunday. I am pleased with Cackle Hatchery. They had sent two extra chicks, both were breeds I had requested. So with the one DOA and my little splay leg I still had the original amount requested which was 30.
