My magpie flock started out as an impulse buy too. Now I'm working on breeding them. You have 3 mice ones. Yes the one is better colored.I have three magpies that I got from a gal down the road from me. I had never really heard of them and they were a bit of an impulse buy so I didn't know to look for markings. Anyhow, two turned out to be boys (Howard and John Redcorn) and only the one girl (Lenore). We had to separate the males out when we integrated a group of ducklings we hatched so they live with our kune kune pigs for now. At least until the girls are mature. Lenore started laying at five months and is the sweetest duck! She is already trying to sit on a single egg so we may let her hatch out a brood this spring. Only Howard is properlymarked, but I still think they are so charming with their unique coloring.

Sounds like a plan.I'm a little surprised at how few people have them. They're really neat ducks. Poor Lenore is on the low end of the pecking order so she's not a bold girl, but she's much quieter than my Cayuga gals - boy are they freaking loud! At like 5 am. EVERY morning. But I wouldn't have it any other way![]()
I'll check out the other thread, thanks much! Not on Facebook, but I appreciate the thought.
I'd like to let Lenore hatch out a bunch of ducklings but I don't think I should let her brothers donate themselves for the job. I've got a beautiful half cayuga, half runner male that is so neat looking and I thought it would be some pretty cool to see what their babies would look like. Purely for fun, of course.
Here's hoping!
