I know this is an older thread but I was hoping for some thoughts from the experts. This is my first hatch. I have had them in paper egg cartons since about day 2 because I didn't like the way they would roll around on the floor of the incubator. I have been tilting the eggs several times a day, back and forth with a twist. They all look great when candled. Tomorrow is lockdown. I will be moving them to a still air Hovabator 1602N (from a Genesis 1588) for the hatch. I am planning on laying them flat on the top of paper egg cartons (for easier cleanup). Will this be okay or should I leave them in cartons with air cells up. My only concern with these eggs is that for the first 15 days the humidity seems to have been too low and the air cells are very large. I increased the humidity when I discovered the hygrometer was (probably) reading too high. I have staggered hatches so I will keep a better eye on the size of the air cells for the younger eggs. I want them to be able to rock around and move freely to get into position in their tight little spaces and I'm thinking that sitting upright in the cartons might hinder this. Any thoughts?
