SO about 85 the 1st week, 80 the 2nd, 72 the third, 65 the fourth, and then a min of 55 for weeks 5,6,and 7 (if you were brooding in the winter)

you want them to have that temp at that period in their lives, but this time of the year I would suspect the air temp will be that. Depending on what part of the world your in I suppose. That is the reason I made the reference to winter...most parts of the U.S. don't dip too far below 55 this time of the year.

Oh ok I got it.
As of right now, where I live is kinda bonkers in the weather and temp. range. We had 40-50 degree weather not that long ago, and now were looking at 60-80 degree weather right now, with on and off rain lol

For ducklings, I use a blue exterior spotlight. 100 watts is what I would prefer to use, but I've used 60 watt when that is all I can get.

For chicks, I use red, and they seem to need the 250 watt red heat lamp. They can't take as low a temperature as the ducklings prefer. the 250 watt is much too strong for ducklings.

If I can get the exterior spots in green in the after Christmas sales, I use green for the ducklings. that seems to work just fine.

The TSC nearest me only carries the 250 watt in red, and 125 & 250 watt in clear. I really don't want to use the clear.
I'm trying to look into other stores that could carry less wat bulbs for poultry.

Both Lowes and Home Depot, and probably Walmart carry colored exterior spotlight Bulbs. Usually in 60 watts. They also come in 100 and 150 watts, but the higher wattage ones are hard to find.

They are not heat lamps. they are the sort of thing you shine on your flagpole or use to illuminate your outdoor Christmas tree.

Should I try and find a colored one? I know in another thread you posted you use blue for ducklings, red for chicks and get green when it's the holiday season.

I checked my Home Depot and surprisingly they didn't have the colored spot lights. They only had the white.

I'll look at Lowes and Walmart.
