Inherited rooster crow.

The first post on this page: http://www.australianpoultryforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3796&start=20 is saying that there are grey junglefowl here, it is old, but about the only way to find out is to contact every poultry club in WA and see if anyone knows or can remember who had them. Also I don't know what the quarantine coming out of WA is like but the east coast breeders hate sending eggs over there because the quarantine going in is a PITA.

Yeah importing is near impossible here and costs a fortune, a couple of years back a group in SA lost hundreds of thousands of dollars bringing in fertile eggs because one tested positive for salmonella. Avgen managed to bring in a heap of birds over several years but it cost her millions, she managed to rent a quarantine station in England somewhere which helped her get them in.
It seems that when they relaxed the import ban from the early 1900's they increased the bio-security on bringing birds in so it is only the most hardcore enthusiasts with deep pockets that will give it a try.
The Sumatra are here but Australia has a history of focusing on high production poultry so the ornamental breeds were never seen as worthwhile to those that had the means to bring them in.
Here is some old chats about Junglefowl, there is mention of an import around 2013 but nothing about if it happened or by whom: http://www.australianpoultryforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3796 http://www.australianpoultryforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=42043
I might join that forum as well to see if there's any about. I'd love a Grey rooster to start a free range flock. I would love to see more breeds here but am happy we have strict bio-security. I've seen people cross-breeding pheasants and chickens, could that be done with scrub turkeys or mallee fowl or would all the progeny be sterile?

I've had Red JungleFowl Fowl cross cockerels. The crow ends up like hybrid between the Wild Crow, & Domestic Crow of both birds.
Ah OK cool thank you. I wasn't sure how the crowing passed on. I've only had one rooster so far and he was a heritage cross of some sort and was deep and loud but he didn't have any other roosters around to teach him so I thought it must of been physiological.

Just be careful that forum isn't secure (no padlock in the address bar).

It doesn't look like scrub turkeys and chickens can cross: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/bush-turkeys-cross-chickens.1422720/

Mallee fowl are from the same family so I would think that they would have the same issues cross breeding with chickens, plus they mate for life. The other problem is that you cannot keep either as pets.

Yeah true. I've heard scrub turkeys can be pretty savage towards chickens as well.
