Welcome to BYC
I too was in a similar situation, except with ducks! I inherited 4 ducks 2.5 years ago. This site has taught me so much in such a short amount of time. I hope you can learn just as much as I have!

Welcome. Thank you for rescuing the babies. Anything I can do to help you, let me know.Hi all! I have a bit of a unique situation. I've had chickens on the brain for years but due to where I live and my lifestyle I did not have the opportunity for chickens. My parents recently bought a property with acreage and the previous homeowners had ABANDONED their chickens there. Luckily the babies had the neighbors to help take care of them during the transition and originally my mom wanted to rehome them, but since I had planned on moving with them (cost of living + disability makes it hard to work and afford a home) I decided to take up the mantle of chicken keeper. I've been orbiting the chicken space for a long time but I am starting the research process since they close on the house very soon and I will be responsible for the babies!
Now to answer questions...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
There are currently 5 in the current flock and my dad recently got another 12 chicks that are being cared for by a friend while we wait for the house to close.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I honestly don't know, my dad did not give me good info on the chicks and I'm not sure about the current flock as we have had limited opportunities to see them during the home buying process.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love animals overall and am excited to learn how to care for chickens.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Crochet plushies, play video games, read and review (mostly romance) books!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a boyfriend, a dog and 2 cats!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
My dad recommended the Facebook page to me and I've been reading the website and looking at the forums to learn more. I'm trying to find ways to get the advice to suit my unique situation inheriting chickens.
