While applying medicine on my month old chick for an open wound on her back, she tried to escape and I grabbed her accidentally by the leg, heard something pop and she's been limping since. I have tried to look for an injury, any swollen area with no luck. She will limp along, but lay down as soon as she can. She has eaten since and still runs with the others but clearly is in pain with that leg. This is my first attempt at raising chickens and I do not know how to diagnose her injury. Please help! Thanks so much.

ouch! can you splint the leg with something? maybe to help her? can you feel where it's out of place? its a long shot but do you think you can CAREFULLY put it back into place? my guess is it popped out of place. if you can carefully put back into place it might help. I'd be afraid if you splinted it without it in place it would heal wrong? they are so fragile at this age what ever you do ; do it Gentle and carefully. hopefully it's not broken. if it is maybe make a tiny splint. one she can walk with. I'm so sorry this happened. you can also see if is going to get better on its own. if its not you'll need to make the splint. you can look up splinting a baby chicks legs. see what you can find to help. best of luck to you and your chick. I pray she gets well soon! best wishes.

Thanks so much for your reply! I checked her this morning and that right foot is bruised now. She's still hanging in there, eating and drinking but not putting any pressure at all on that foot. Can I splint it somehow? I appreciate your prayers and advice so much! I just love these girls...they are more than just my egg layers, they're my GIRLS, haha!
Thanks again!
