Injured Canada Goose. What should I do?

Is there a feed mill anywhere near you? You can usually get a better deal on feed from a mill if you have some barrels or large cans to store it in. Some mills also bag them.

If they are going to remain wild birds maybe you should help them out some but let them forage for most of their needs. I know you are trying to make sure those special geese get enough to eat. It's difficult to feed 2-3 and not have the other's join in too. If you are like me, if it looks hungry, I feed it! 🤣

I would think all commercial feeds have increased in price and rabbit or horse pellets would still be higher than plain corn and other pet foods as well.

I give my chickens stuff from my garden too. They don't get to free range out into the yard. So I try to give them greens as often as I can. I grow a bit extra to give them. Lots of greens will grow well into winter here. Collards are very hardy. You can crop bottom leaves and let the plant continue to grow to have greens most of the winter. Pretty easy to grow and my birds love them. They are also very good for them and you. I have saved collard seed for many years from some passed down to me by my FIL. I'd be glad to send you seed if you'd like. I probably have other seeds as well I can share if you want to give it a try. Just let me know.
I believe there is a commercial feed mill right down the road, but I thought they only milled for their flocks. I have no idea how that works but I think it'd be a great idea to look into it. Thank you 💜

I just checked Google and there is a Perdue Feed mill not very far and Mountaire feed mill is right down the road. Looks like both are closed but I'll call Monday morning. The worst case is they don't sell feed but if they don't, maybe they can turn me in the right direction 😁 Thank you so much

As for the seeds, that would be absolutely amazing and I would be so grateful for that. You are so kind 💜 I'll send you my address in our conversation. Thank you so much

PS LOVE your new profile pic! 😍
Thank you! My hard working pollinators 😍 There were so many working to pollinate that ever growing pumpkin (I think you are spot on with your I'd) plant. Still no female flowers blooming though. I was so surprised to catch a picture of one of the bees on its way out 😍

You're profile picture is pretty amazing too. Absolutely gorgeous 😍

No problem on the seeds. :thumbsup Glad to help! I'll get them out first of the week. I have way too many seeds and always saving more! ☺️

Those bees really love those big blooms. Sometimes I see hummingbirds at them too. I usually mix in some marigolds and zinnias in the veggie garden it really gets the pollinators in there.🌹

:goodpost:

I feed feral pigeons (as you probably know), and I try not to feed them too much so they still forage and don’t completely depend on me. If there’s some food left out you may be feeding them a bit too well!

I don’t know if it would be cheaper, but I feed the feral pigeons chicken scratch and wild bird seed. Maybe you could try feeding the cracked corn and also some fruits and veggies that geese like to make up for the ones that prefer pellets.

I remember a member some years back who showed his Muscovy and fed the sweet feed. I had never heard of it before but looked it up. Not sure if that would be an alternative or not. Maybe something to mix with pellets? says multi-species but nothing about using it for poultry

I actually had some of this in my cart at TSC 😊 Then I found that the molasses can act as a flush for chickens, and I suspected the same could be for waterfowl. I kept going back and forth on it. I did find a deer feed that's a mix of Pellets and corn. I can't find what's in these pellets but I guess I'll find out. I had to order some corn and duck pellets this morning because the geese stayed here until right before dark last night. Every time I wanted to go outside they'd spot me and come running. Like NanaK, if it's hungry, I feed it. I can't help it. It's like one of those "WWJD" feelings tugging at my heart ♥ I do think @RoostersAreAwesome is right and I need to cut the feed back some to help them get back to foraging. I can understand Billie needing me to feed her, but the others need to forage some. They come here and act like they haven't had anything to eat since they left the day before. Poor little cuties. All the babies are getting passed their awkward stage and are absolutely gorgeous with their huge eyes. One of them ate from my hand yesterday which wasn't planned but they just couldn't wait another half second for it to hit the ground 🤦🏻‍♀️ Whenever they come in such large groups, they cover both of my exits so there is no sneaking around them 🤣 I've created some starving monsters 😂😂😂 I did order a bag of deer pellets and corn mix.

@Miss Lydia I didn't even think to ask you but I'm sure you know. Does molasses act as a flush for waterfowl? I wonder if it's in certain amounts that causes that. If it wasn't so darn hot outside, I'd try it and see how they do.

I don't know about waterfowl but a long time ago they use to put a little bit in baby milk if they needed a laxative so I would think this would happen to all species especially if they got very much.

Oh my goodness gracious alive, y'all! Check this out from this morning. If it wasn't for an annoying biting fly harassing me, I could have stayed still longer and let this sweetheart eat more. Her fawn was nearby playing or rather chasing a bunny but it wasn't quite as trusting as the doe. It chose not to take the chance getting so close to the oddest feeder they'd ever seen 😂 I guess this deer protein mix does bring the deer in 😍 This doe has been much less scared than any other deer I've encountered and I've seen her many times. Hopefully that doesn't get her killed. I wanted to share this picture with y'all 💜
