I went up 2 feet with mine, over the 2x4 welded wire walls, just to keep tiny chicks in...but big run has boards and logs all along edge....smaller run I had to use and inside apron in a couple corners where big chickens had dug under HC.
You do have to be very careful not to leave holes or places where chicks/chickens can get stuck. I had chicken wire over the 2x4 before, it created holes the chicks were sticking their heads thru, one got stuck and broke it neck.
