My lavender Orpington cockerel broke his toe!! I tried to splint it and he was limping even more so after a few days I took it off. Now it has turned black and is shriveling up. What do I do?? I’m pretty sure this means the circulation has stopped going to it. Should I cut it off? This has never happened before. I am concerned for him to have balance issues because Orpingtons are very large. He is only 15 weeks now. Any help is appreciated!!
Did you see her toe get caught in anything today? Or was she wearing a leg band or something that could have slipped onto her toe? It looks to me like she had circulation in her toe cut off. The flesh/upper half of the toe is now dead and this would be the reason for discoloration... This injury is somewhat similar to frost bite and the dead part of the toe will eventually just fall off. She should be fine but keep an eye on her in case there are complications.
