So one of my hens got bit by a neighbors dog a week ago today. It was pretty bad bite (no puncture wounds that we could see, but took off a large chunk of skin (3 x 2 inch section on the smallest 2 month old easter egger we have). It then got pretty infected for a couple days. We've had her in our house in a bathtub this whole time. We've been bringing her outside for monitored play time with the other hens and one of them continuously pecks at her wound if we take our eyes off of them! Oddly enough, the injured hen allows it to happen until we intervene. But now when we bring her back inside she is slamming herself into the shower door! I think she's really wanting out but I'm so afraid of the other hens pecking her wound and making it worse. I also want to let her be with her friends. Help!! How long should I keep her separated? Could the other chicken be attempting to help clean the wound and not be doing damage? Thanks!!

you should keep her separated until she heals, id she is the smallest chances are she is at the bottom of the order, thus she would have to let the others peck at her. once they taste blood they wont stop. no the other is not trying to clean the wound. putting on some anti biotic ointment and washing it at least once a day before drying it thourghly would also be a good idea. some oral antibiotics wouldn't be a bad idea either . some wound powder or spray would be good on the wounds
