It's a chicken that I'm locking up at night. Attacked by a raccoon. Can I give a shot of penicillin? And wash wounds with water and possibly spray with alushield?

That sounds confusing. I'm locking up the chickens at night for a neighbor but the coop was broken into last night. 2 dead, 2 Alive and this injured one.

I've poured water over the main wound to clear it out. Picked off the ants and blotted peroxide on it to help cleanse it. I didn't put any thing else on it. No Vaseline, nor alushield. She is in my infirmary, aka laundry room, in a large tote. She can walk ok. She is calm. I have offered water but no feed yet.

I don't have any poultry specific meds. So that's all I can do, right?

I hate to see any animal suffer and my husband will put her down if necessary. Have you seen such a wound get better?

I have had worse injuries than that completely heal. I would put neosporn on it to help it heal. I am going through the same thing right now with one of my 3 month old chickens that my roo got a hold of the whole back of its head and neck is open, had the same thing happened last year to one of my other chickens and it healed completely and than was eaten by a hawk. But yes it will heal just keep it clean and use some neosporn or any antiseptic cream she will be back with her friends in no time.
