Hi! This is my first time being a chicken mom and my friends dog killed on of our chickens and injured anothers wing. There was a small gash on the end of her wing and I cleaned it and put neosporn on it. My other chickens have been protecting her and cuddling her when they are all back in the coop. My question is the underneath of her wing is green/blue is this okay or should I take her to the vet? Also the gash was on the top and she can't fly like she normally could, it hardly flaps. Thanks!

I'm sorry such horrible circumstances brought you to BYC.

You did the right thing putting some neosporin on the wound. I would continue applying neosporin every day until the gash is healed. As for the green/blue color, it is likely that the area is simply bruised. It should go away in a while.

Does the wing feel broken? Can you extend it normally and move it around without it seeming to disconnect or be dislocated/fractured? She may not be using the wing correctly because it hurts, or due to muscle damage. Or, it may be broken, in which case you could try wrapping it close to her body and letting it heal naturally.

Welcome!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss and wish you and your injured girl all the best.

I am not experienced in injuries of this kind so will leave you in BantamLover’s capable hands.

Thanks everyone! She's doing okay and we are keeping a very close eye on her. She doesn't try to use her wing so watching her run is pretty funny! I'll post an update soon!
