Returning home today I noticed a large bird in the road by my house. Closer inspection revealed that it was a chicken! I left it for a short while to see if the owners would come and claim it however no-one showed up. I have been keeping chickens myself for about a year and so went out and caught the bird. It was very docile and allowed me to pick it straight up. I thought it would be best to look the bird over as it was looking a little worse for wear and discovered that it had a large raw and bald patch on it's underside that seemed to be causing it some pain.
I have washed the wound with luke warm water and covered it in septi-dry to try and help ease the irritation. I have placed the bird in a large cardboard box with just water and a small roost (it was struggling to sit comfortably on the floor of the box) and have left it in the dark to avoid it getting stressed.
I am hoping everything I have done is correct and any advice would be really helpful. Any knowledge on what the raw/bald patch is (disease or accident?) and what should I consider doing next?
I can provide pictures if needed.
Thanks.

Well, I would put the chicken on the ground outside and make her a small shelter (a small table like thing). Then, you should put a dish of food and water out for her. For the bare spot, rub on some Neosporin very thinly. If she got hit by a car or something, you can't do anything even in the best care. When it comes to cardboard, it is very slippery so I wouldn't use it next time. Good luck! :)
