Hey all,

I had a foster dog go through my flock like the Tasmanian devil. Lost 9 for sure. Have had some reappear from unknown hiding places and had to put one down this morning. The injured seem to be doing ok. I cleaned all wounds with hibcleanse. Poured it in and on. The birds are limping and sore but eating and drinking. I have a 5 month old hen inside for more intense treatment as she would not eat or drink. She started to drink after giving her subq, fluids with dextrose. This morning we gave her baby food mixed with very wet layer ration. She ate a fair amount and promptly went to sleep. How often does she need to eat? I put some of the mix in a container by her in the brooder but she may not eat without coaxing. I have no clue how long it will take her crop to empty. I am watching carefully for infections as I would rather not try to medicate every bird as its quite hot in central tx and they empty 3 or 4 waterers every day. I really want sissy to pull through as she is like a puppy. Dang dog he has already been moved to another foster home.

Thanks
Alice

A bird under stress is not going to digest the food normally. I would offer food and water as frequently as you can. Being tame and friendly I would put more effort into holding her and keeping her interested in life. Stress kills birds often.
