Our khaki campbell drake was injured today after a dominance issue. Our muscovy drake mounted him this morning and it looks like our poor Slate (khaki drake) had his leg injured in the process. We caught him and did a once over and everything is attached right. I don't feel anything out of the norm. But hes unable to walk normally. Any suggestions? Our muscovy had been put on time out for now

It is not uncommon for ducks to develop strains, and sprains from mating damage, getting their feet caught in things, or tripping over objects. Their anatomical design allows them to be good swimmers, but poor walkers. On a general basis, the problem will resolve itself.

To promote healing, confining the duck to a soft padded pen to reduce movement, and prevent further reinjuring may be good. Letting the duck practice water therapy, or swim in Epsom salts can help. If you notice swelling in the leg, a compression bandage to reduce any swelling, and any dead tissue space could promote faster healing. The lack of several vitamins can promote the likelihood of leg problems so always ensure the duck s being fed a feed formulated for ducks specifically, or for all poultry.

We brought him in and when I went to check on him this morning, he was very angry with me. I've never seen him hiss or lower in to an aggressive stance before. He was fine after I changed his bedding, food and water. I talked to him and tried to get a better look at his ankle. Im going to try and wrap it today if he let's me.

Oh I know. He was in time out for a little bit. Now we have the injured drake inside with us. Currently debating on having 2 separate duck coops. Or just getting rid of our muscovy drake since he doesn't seem to get along with anyone thats not a muscovy

Best pic I could get of his leg
