Hello, my duck has been limping for about a month now, no vet will see her.

I’ve tried to rest her on her own, niacin, all the things you do for a lame duck.

The only possible injury I could see is, it seems like her hind toe is almost dead , like not stiff or anything just very rubbery.

I’m stumped . Does anyone have any advice?
Thx

Unfortunately I don’t have a pic of the top, but I will get one later . I have been giving peas and have been crushing niacin in pill form for her . (Jamison’s niacin 500mg)

I don't see a bumble, the toe on the left in the picture isn't swollen?
The niacin looks good just wanted to make sure it wasn't flush free or time-released since neither of them work for niacin deficiency. Are crushing it and adding it to her feed becasue putting it into water will dilute it and she may not be getting the whole dose. Is it possible she has injured her leg or foot it doesn't take much? When we suspect a niacin deficiency we recommend the Liquid B complex it works faster and helps them get over a deficiency easier. TSC usually carries one Durvet liquid B complex it says injectable but we use it orally over a small amount of treat with 1 ml over top. This helps to make sure the affected duck is getting full dose.
How old is your duck? and health issues before this limping?

She is only over a year old, no health issues before , our one duck was very heavy into that mating game , then one day she was just limping . That’s when I started separating , got more ladies and started on the niacin but she never got better . By the way thanks again for the reply misslydia! Always coming through for the duck people :)

I wish I could help more sometimes they just baffle us.
I've had a few of my Runners limping at times mainly from my 2 drakes but they usually get over it quickly[Couple of days]. If you can pick up some Liquid B Complex and start her on it? it's always worth trying and keep trying to give her times out so she isn't over using her leg. Could possibly be in her back too. Which rest hopefully will take care of it. Sometimes it does take a while for healing.

I had a Muscovy years ago that limped for quite a while due to a drake over mating her. I did not realize at the time that was the problem. She eventually got over it though and I pray that yours does too.

Thanks for the reply, I have a suspicion that this might be the case, because her neck looks like she has been getting over mated, did you separate her for a while or did it eventually just heal up

You are most welcome, I did get her away from the drake for a while and she did heal up but it took a while. I didn't realize at the time that could happen or that a drake could hurt them like that. I ended up getting rid of them shortly after that as they kept flying away and I would have to chase them down. I did not have internet or BYC to turn to for questions on how to handle things so I was very uninformed about what to do in different situations.

I have 5 of my females separated from the drakes right now. One is pretty chewed up on her head. I may have to keep them like this until Fall and may have to add more females if they start getting roughed up too. We have to protect our girls.
