Injured duck leg

Hey all, my duck Petrie was injured mysteriously on Tuesday in a secure run.

Her left leg was injured; fairly scraped up, swollen, and bruised. Her dewclaw looked like it had almost been ripped off. I do not feel any unstableness or broken bones in any part of the leg. I’ve had her on crate rest with 2x/day bandage changes for three days, then 2x/day cleanings with Nolvasan, Veterycin, and original Neosporin applied.

The bruising is getting a lot better. Her dewclaw is also having color return to it finally. My concern is that she still is reluctant to put any weight on it and the swelling is still fairly significant. Does anyone have any advice on how to reduce the swelling? Will she keep the dewclaw? Is there anything else I can be doing for her?

Thank you for your time. Petrie survived a gizzard impaction last year (yes gizzard and not crop), and means a lot to our family.

Aww bless her heart, looks like she either got her foot stuck in something or something dropped on it. That is some significant brusing Glad to hear nothing broken sure looks like it should be. I'd try soaking her foot a couple times a day in warm epsom salt water. [Don't let her drink the water it's also a laxative.] Also giving her swim time when she can take pressure off her foot can help keep those muscles from weakening while she is healing. I use a short bucket to soak that way I put both legs down into the bucket and hold onto the duck till soak is over I try for at least 10 mins each time.
