Injured duck - trying to figure out how to help

O

Okay thank you. I’m in Texas and the bird refuge I can take it to takes all kinds of birds and ducks, I just didn’t want to pull it away from its family, or traumatize it trying to catch it if it was something that would eventually heal. I am new to the duck world, I wasn’t sure how all this works. I am totally willing to try to catch it and take it to the refuge, any suggestions on the best way to do that…let me know. Appreciate it.
Do you have or can you get your hands on a long-handled net? Since she won't let you get close enough to actually grab her a net will probably be the best way.

It can't get enough speed to fly so if you can keep it away from the water, you may be able to net it. You could also try using fences to try and make a corral trap to try and corral it into. Maybe ask some animal lover friends to assist?

I can definitely try that. I went back just now and got as close to it as I could and reinspected it’s foot, it looks like it and all the other ducks like it naturally have dark grey spots on their feet, and it’s “problem area” seems to be a swollen part with a dark black spot on top. Attaching a few more photos, one is of it’s sibling, just so you can see the normal version of its coloring. I will round up some animal loving assistance and a net so I can catch this little homie and take it to the bird refuge where it can get some medical care.

Please do. Keep us updated on her if you can. That foot still looks unusually black compared to her sibling. Good luck.
