Injured Duckling

For everyone worried about the alcohol, I went with peroxide instead. The little one didn’t make a sound, I just wanted to make sure it was clean, so start the healing off right. ☺️

There are a couple non-sting sprays that are useable. I used Banixx Horse and Pet Care, works like a charm. I had a few badly injured hens and none of them got chickie gangrene, even when they pressed their wounds against dirt. I recommend using it if you can.

... alright friends, it happened again. I woke up this morning and went to check on my littles, and the same duckling as yesterday had BOTH wings bloody. I’m going to clean him/her up, and move them all outside. I think they may have outgrown their brooder, and are outside most of the day anyway.

Is there a possibility I’ll have to get rid of this duckling if this behavior continues outside, in a bigger area?

For the future, Vetrycin spray is painless, at least it was on me. I know, it’s not for humans. It was a few months ago, and I haven’t clucked yet!
Ha I use it on ducks, dogs, cats and me. Peroxide hurts too. I used it on a badly injured duck with screaming invovled, both of us. When I followed with vetrycin , the little ducky just relaxed in my hand. It was raccoon damage so I would do it again just to clean the wound once.

Space makes a difference too, at least with mine. In their run they’re more likely to fight, nobody has the option of running away.

I’m thinking that they may be outgrowing their rather large brooder, so I’m hoping that moving them outside with help. They’ve been ready to be out of the house for a few days, I’ve just been dragging my feet because I’m not ready 😂😭

Hi everyone!
As suggesting I cleaned this wound the first day, and after that the duckling kept herself clean, and the other ducklings weren’t picking at her, so I let it be. Flash forward to my night check (I always check before I go to bed at night to make sure they have food/water/make sure everything is in order for the night), this same duckling from my original post is now bloodied up again, from the same feather on the same wing. Is it possible she just knocked the scab off? Will this keep happening? Is there anything I can do to prevent it?
